Robust resolve rules the road to Spain in rainy MJT Sergio Garcia Qualifier at Pine Hills

Canada’s leading competitive junior golf circuit, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), brought a waitlisted field of 19U athletes to scenic Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, for the MJT Sergio Garcia Junior Championship Qualifier at Pine Hills Golf Club on July 21–22.

Set against a rugged, tree-lined backdrop, Pine Hills offered a true Alberta test, made even tougher by unfavourably wet conditions throughout the two-day tournament. Still, the challenging weather couldn’t dampen the drive of these talented juniors, who battled it out in six divisions for coveted titles, fantastic prizes, and qualifying spots in three of MJT’s most prestigious events: the Sergio Garcia Junior Championship in Spain, the Jack Newton International Junior Classic in Australia, and the MJT National Tour Challenge in Ontario.

Low Overall Honours for boys and girls respectively went to Chase Strang, 15, of Airdrie, AB, winner of MJT Juvenile Boys (73-75=148) and Saylar May, 16, of Rocky Mountain House, AB, winner of the MJT Girls 15-19 division (74-73=147). Despite the rain, additional winning performances led to division titles for Casey Sliva, 17, from Red Deer, AB, in MJT Junior Boys (152), Belanna Bandola, 13, from Edmonton, AB, in MJT Girls U15 (174), Harrison Wells, 13, of Edmonton, AB, in MJT Bantam Boys (161), and Jaxon Rogalczyk, 11, of Innisfail, AB, in MJT Peewee Boys (167).

Top finisher scores, quotes from the division winners, and the list of qualified and short-listed players can be found below. Results from the Bomber Long Drive, PLYR Closest to the Pin, Booster Juice BounceBack Awards and Academy Points can be found here.

Up next in Alberta is the major three-day MJT Ford Series at Olds Golf Course in Olds, August 5-7. This elite event promises top-tier competition and a showcase of rising junior talent. For more information on the MJT and upcoming events, visit www.maplejt.com.
