Two playoffs in popular MJT Junior Worlds Qualifier presented by Edge School at Wolf Creek
The record-breaking season on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s leading junior golf tour, continued with the MJT Junior Worlds Qualifier presented by Edge School at the renowned Wolf Creek Golf Resort in Ponoka, Alberta, May 10-11. With beautiful sunshine overhead and Wolf Creek’s championship layout underfoot, this heavily wait listed event brought together a competitive field of junior golfers from three provinces, all chasing high-level competition and big opportunities.
On the line were six division titles and qualifying spots (direct and short-listed) in five major events: the East Coast Junior Championship, Junior America’s Cup – Team Alberta, MJT Alberta Invitational at Stewart Creek, MJT National Tour Challenge, and the Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championship. The stakes were sky-high — and the performances rose to meet them.
The MJT Junior Boys title was decided in a one-hole playoff after Chase Lassman (16, Parkland County, AB) and Russell Quinn (18, St. Albert, AB) both finished tied at 4-under 138 after two rounds. Lassman sealed the win with a clutch performance. The MJT Bantam Boys division also needed extra holes to determine a winner after a tie for the top with a score of 158. Parker Andrews (13, Fort St. John, BC) outlasted Jacob Natomagan (14, Sylvan Lake, AB) in a two-hole playoff to claim the title.
Rhea Deo, 15, of Edmonton, AB, won the MJT Girls 15-19 title by two strokes (72-82=154), while other strong performances led to division wins for Lucas Sturgeon, 15, from Saskatoon, SK, in MJT Juvenile Boys (74-71=145), Sedona Weitz, 12, of Foothills M.D., AB, in MJT Girls U15 (76-75=151), and Oscar Gosgnach, 12, of Edmonton, AB, in MJT Peewee Boys (149).
