Fantastic 115-strong field and thrilling playoff highlight MJT’s Forge Golf Academy stop at Paradise Canyon

Canada’s number one-played junior tour hit the ground running in Alberta, as a wait-listed field of 115 players teed it up under sunny skies in the MJT FCG Worlds Qualifier presented by Forge Golf Academy at Paradise Canyon Golf Resort in Lethbridge, AB, on April 26-27. With strong scores across the board, players on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour battled for early-season glory and the chance to qualify for six high-level national and international events. High winds during round two put players to the test, showing just how tough Paradise Canyon can play when the conditions turn. Despite the challenging elements, brilliant scoring still emerged.

The MJT Junior Boys title had to be decided in a thrilling two-hole playoff, in which Russell Quinn, 18, of St. Albert, AB, edged out Brae Rogalczyk, 17, of Innisfail, AB, after both players fired matching rounds of 69 and 69 (138) for the lead and Low Overall Boys Score. Quinn sealed the victory with clutch play under pressure.

In the Girls 15-19 division, Charlie Duchnij, 17, of Airdrie, AB, shot steady rounds of 76-77 (153) to win the title and Low Overall Score for the Girls.

Other strong performances led to division wins for Jayden Arnold, 14, of Calgary, AB, in MJT Juvenile Boys (70-74=144), Erik Petersen, 13, from Okotoks, AB, in MJT Bantam Boys (70-75=145), Danika Horcica, 13, of Edmonton, AB, in MJT Girls U15 (75-82=157), and Oscar Gosgnach, 12, of Edmonton, AB, in MJT Peewee Boys (75-75=150).
