Tovell’s two-under tops all in MJT’s G&G Brands Classic at Century Pines

Canada’s number-one junior tour, the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, hosted a solid field in the MJT G&G Brands Classic in Troy, Ontario, this past weekend, at another new venue on the 2023 schedule - Century Pines Golf Club. Players were competing in six age divisions for titles and Order of Merit points to earn invitation to the MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Phoenix, Arizona, this November.

Perfect conditions, a well-manicured golf course and a tough test met the players, who rose to the challenge.  Top finishers’ scores and winner quotes are noted below, while results from the TaylorMade Long Drive, PLYR Closest to the Pin, Booster Juice BounceBack Awards and Academy Points can be found on the MJT website here. Highlights included seeing first-time MJT winner, Gabe Tovell of Campbellville, ON, finish the weekend at two under par, taking the MJT Junior and Low Overall Boys titles. Low Overall among the Girls divisions went to Nobelle Park, 13, of Oakville, ON, who plays up in MJT Girls 15-19 where she triumphed with a fourth title this season, matched by her twin sister, Kaprice, who was victorious for the fourth time in MJT Girls U15.  Other notable wins went to Gerry Kou of Markham, ON, winning in MJT Peewee Boys for the second time this year, Josh Wang of North York breaking through for his first win in MJT Bantam Boys, and Benjamin Hudson of Ailsa Craig, ON, outlasting a long list of contenders to win the MJT Juvenile Division.

Players can still register for the final stop in the province, the MJT Humber College PGM Classic at Lakeridge Links Golf Club in Brooklin, ON, on August 26-27, 2023. More information on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, including the entire 2023 schedule, can be found online at www.maplejt.com.
