Nesbitt off to hot start in MJT Manitoba Mini Tour season opener
Tournament Highlights:

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) hosted the first 2022 event in the province for 12U rising young golfers, the MJT Mini Tour at St. Boniface Golf Club, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 14.

It was a cold, wet and windy day for golfers, but it was all smiles and excitement for the season opener after a long winter.

The tournament acted as a direct qualifier for the FCG Callaway World Championship and a shortlist qualifier for the IMG Academy Junior World Championship.

Austin Nesbitt, 10, of Pilot Butte, SK, had a fiery game this weekend, shooting one-under-par for the win in MJT Boys 11-12.

Forrest Wiebe, 9, of MacGregor, MB, in a tight battle for first, finished with an 87 to win the MJT Boys 9-10 title.

Ryan Small, 8, of Winnipeg, MB, shot 100 to claim the MJT Boys 8U title.

Maisy Shewchuk, 9, of Winnipeg, MB, came out to shoot 91 in the MJT Girls 9-10 division.

This is also my first win in Manitoba, and first Manitoba tourney ever! My favorite shot of the weekend was my shot on the 1st hole from 55 yards, when I put it about a foot or so from the pin. My chipping this weekend really helped a lot in my game with my putting being a close second.”

About the MJT: The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is Canada’s number one-played Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the ‘Road to College Golf’ in Canada.
