Despite BC heat wave, 76 compete in MJT Mini Tour’s Cultus Lake stop; more top players qualify for Nationals

Tournament Highlights:
- Canada’s number one-played Junior Golf Tour held the MJT Mini Tour at Cultus Lake Golf Club in Cultus Lake, BC, July 29, where a packed field of 76 young golfers competed in the heat for titles in six divisions in preparation for the MJT Mini Tour National Championship next month.
- Due to hot weather affecting playing conditions, divisions completed the following number of holes respectively: Girls 9-10: 12 holes; Girls and Boys 11-12, Boys 9-10: 13 holes; Girls and Boys 8U: 18 holes
- All division winners who are not already exempt received invitations into the MJT Mini Tour National Championship at Tsawwassen Springs, Tsawwassen, BC, August 24-25.
- Tiger Zhao, 11, of Vancouver, BC, clinched the MJT Boys 11-12 title by one stroke after 13 holes, finishing with a round of 49.
- Michelle Jee, 11, of Port Coquitlam, BC, in a tight race for first, held the lead through 13 holes and came out with the MJT Girls 11-12 division title with a score of 50.
- In the MJT Boys 9-10 division, James Qiu, 9, of Surrey, BC, took the division title with a three-stroke winning margin after firing a score of 47.
- Bella Yang, 10, of Vancouver, BC, won the MJT Girls 9-10 division title in a tight race through 12 holes, besting her nearest rival by three strokes.
- Carter Lavers, 8, of North Vancouver, BC, took home his second win in two tournaments in the MJT Boys 8U division, edging out a one-stroke victory with a score of 72 for 18 holes.
- Luna Zhou, 7, of Vancouver, BC, played a solid round of golf, and in a close battle for podium positions came out on top of the MJT Girls 8U division with a score of 81, again with a one stroke winning margin.
