Niagara on the Lake, ON – (September 19, 2022) – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour successfully hosted the fifth annual MJT National Team Challenge (NTC) presented by Freedom 55 Financial and Province of Ontario at the Royal Niagara Golf Club in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, on September 16 through 18. Teams from across Canada, USA, and Australia gathered to compete in this 54-hole major event, ranked by World Amateur Golf Ranking, AJGA, Junior Golf Scoreboard, Junior Golf Hub, and the Golf Association of Ontario. Collegiate-style scoring allocated the daily top four individual scores from each team towards the team score; the young golfers competed for individual overall titles as well.

The event welcomed back international teams this year and Team Australia repeated their 2019 victory, being crowned Champions after posting a three-day score of 880 (289,296,295), including four top ten finishes across the tournament. Team Australia, from the Jack Newton Junior Golf Tour, made a statement, maintaining an extremely strong team lead from day one which led to a dominant victory.

Leading the way for Team Australia was 18-year-old Alex Maxwell, from Fremantle, who carded impressive scores of 71, 68, 72 to finish the tournament at five-under, also winning the Low Overall individual title of NTC Junior Boys Champion.  Another driving force was Amanda Gan, 16, of Perth WA, Australia. Gan was runner-up in the NTC Junior Girls division with scores of 74,74, 74 (222), just two shots behind the overall winner. Congratulations to the whole team of Shyla Singh, Amanda Gan, Isaak Jensen, Alexander Maxwell, Joshua Todd, Daley Loumanis, and their coaches.

Winner of the Low Overall individual title of NTC Junior Girls Champion was Zoe Parker, 16, of Las Vegas, Nevada, with rock-solid rounds of 73,73,74 (220). Parker was a part of Team World Stars, that placed fourth overall in the team competition with a three-day score of 916 (302,310,304).

The team from Nick Starchuk Golf in Ontario placed second with a three-day score of 909 (312,294,303), edging out MJT Team East by two-strokes. Leading the way for Nick Starchuk Golf were 12-year-old twins, Nobelle and Kaprice Park, of Oakville, Ontario, who finished third and eighth respectively in the girl’s division, and Andrew Lee, 16, of Mississauga, Ontario, who finished fifth in the boy’s division. Other team members include Ethan Turner, Curtis Li, Andrew Lee, and Payton Hawke.

The third-place podium finish in the team competition went to Team MJT East – Karolyn Rombouts, Karolyn Zeng, Jaiden Brown, Bennet Hawrelak, Michael Collett, and Simon Moir - with scores of 305, 300, and 306 (911). Bennet Hawrelak, 16, of Komoka, ON, answered the call and stepped on the podium in the NTC Junior Boys division for a third-place finish with rounds of 77,69,75 (221), with close competition only a single stroke behind him in the final round.
