Manitoba season ends with major MJT Bieber Classic; third round cut pressures players for podium positions
Venue and location: Glendale G&CC (round one and two), Maplewood GC (round three), Winnipeg, Manitoba
Tournament Date: August 22-24, 2022
Tournament Highlights:
- Canada’s number-one played Junior Golf Tour, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, closed the program’s 2022 season in Manitoba with the major three-day MJT Bieber Classic on August 22-24. This was the first time the 24-year-old program has held a 54-hole event in the province, and the first time a cut determined the field for the final round.
- The first two rounds played out on Glendale Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg, with the third and final round on Maplewood Golf Club in St Pierre-Jolys. Valuable bonus MJT Order of Merit Points were up for grabs to help players qualify for the MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf in Florida this November.
- Carson Inman, 16, of Portage La Prairie, MB, fired off a low final round of 69 to secure the division title for MJT Juvenile Boys, as well as the low overall boys title, just one stroke ahead of his next competitor.
- The MJT Junior Boys division saw Jack Taylor, 17, of Winnipeg, MB, triumph after going low with a great round of 69, taking the title by two strokes.
- India Young, 16, of Carman, MB, battled it out for first in the MJT Girls 15-19 division, coming out on top with scores of 82,84,77=243 for a three stroke victory.
- Finishing the tournament with a scorecard of 80,77,73=230, MJT Bantam Boys winner Adam Blair, 14, of Winnipeg, MB, won with a single stroke to spare.
- Olivia Johnson, 13, of Calgary, AB, came out to shoot consistent rounds of 88,86,87=261 for the MJT Girls U15 division title.
- Lucas Sturgeon, 12, of Saskatoon, SK, a familiar face on the MJT Saskatchewan circuit, won the MJT Peewee Boys title by two strokes with scores of 81,76,81= 238.
- Long Drive, Closest-to-the-Pin and Booster Juice Bounceback award winners are posted on the website.
