Great scores heat up MJT’s Chilliwack stop; Chang and Ince win low overall titles in final chance to qualify for Nationals

Canada’s number-one played Junior Golf Tour witnessed great scores out of the 90-plus players competing in the heat at the two-day MJT BC Series at Chilliwack Golf and Country Club in Chilliwack, BC, on August 29- 30.

This was the last tournament in the province that counted towards qualification for the upcoming MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf in Orlando, FLA, this November.

The Low Overall Boys title went to MJT Juvenile Boys Champion, Joshua Ince, 16, of Surrey, BC, who shot amazing rounds of 68,70 =138 (-6) to win his division by two strokes over Austin Krahn,15, of Christina Lake. Krahn’s outstanding low round of the day, 66 (-6), vaulted him into the runner-up position on the podium.

Playing up a division, Ha Young Chang, 14, of Surrey, BC, won the Low Overall Girls title and the MJT Girls 15-19 trophy after she shot a sizzling first round of two-under-par to card 70,76=146 overall for a dominant victory.

Stewart Walker, 17, of Whistler, BC, shot excellent scores of 71,72 = 143 (-1) to take the MJT Junior Boys division title by six strokes.

More low scoring came in the highly competitive MJT Bantam Boys division, where the winner, Jaden August, 13, of Pitt Meadows, BC, blazed his way around the Chilliwack course with eight birdies in round one alone to shoot incredible scores of 67,70 = 137 (-7), continuing his hot streak this season in BC.

Matthew Cui, 11, of Burnaby, BC, shot rock-solid rounds of 73,71=144 to claim the MJT Peewee Boys Champion’s title by three strokes.

The MJT Girls 15U Champion was Zhehui Yu, 14, of Burnaby, BC, who won the division by a strong seven strokes after shooting 73,75=148 (+4).
