Gilbert and Turner tie for the top in rain-shortened MJT Mini Tour at Turnberry

Brampton, ON – (July 14, 2021) – The MJT Mini Tour for 12U players returned to Brampton, Ontario, on July 13, to compete in six age divisions at Turnberry Golf Club. Young golfers between the ages of six and twelve started the day off in comfortable conditions at the MJT Mini Tour GTA #2 at Turnberry Golf Club, but were soon met with a downpour of rain and hail, leading to the tournament being shortened to nine holes.   

There was a tie at the top of the leaderboard with scores of 31 after nine holes in the MJT Boys 11-12 Division, between 12-year-old players Lucas Gilbert, of Toronto, ON, and Noah Turner, of LaSalle, ON. With the weather not permitting a playoff or the continuation of play, Gilbert took home the division title by retrogression.

The MJT Boys 9-10 Division saw 10-year-old Bryce Burridge, of London, ON, shoot a score of 28 through nine holes at Turnberry to take the division title by four shots. Burridge, who finished second the last time the MJT Mini Tour was at Turnberry, claimed the top of the podium this time, surviving the rainy conditions for his first Mini Tour win of the season. Minesing, ON, golfer Charlie Smit, 10, fired a score of 32 through nine holes to finish runner-up.

Returning to the top of the MJT Girls 11-12  leaderboard in Ontario once again was 11-year-old Kaprice Park, of Oakville, ON.  Park, who picked her first win at the last event at Turnberry, continued her fine performance to earn her second MJT win of the season. Shooting a nine-hole score of 31 to finish runner-up was twin sister Nobelle Park, who is also no stranger to the top of the MJT leaderboards.

The MJT Girls 9-10 Division witnessed 10-year-old Ava Gilbart, of Toronto, ON, record a score of 36 to win the division title. Gilbart, who played her first year on the MJT Mini Tour last year recording several top five finishes, started her 2021 season off with a win in her first event.

Markham, ON, player Weijian Lu, finished with a nine-hole score of 30 to earn the MJT Boys 8U  title. The eight-year-old golfer, who earned three wins last year on the Mini Tour, picked up his first 2021 win in his first start this year. Eight-year-old Clark Kirkham, of Shelburne, ON, and seven-year-old Kingston MacPherson, of Aurora, ON, both recorded nine-hole scores of 32 to tie for second place. 

Rounding out the division winners was Soleil Lindholm, 7, of Toronto, ON, who shot 36 to win the MJT Girls 8U title over six-year-old Charlotte Black of Paris, ON.
