Six MJT Mini Tour titles won at Turnberry Golf Club in Brampton

Brampton, ON – (July 27, 2021) – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour hosted the  MJT Mini Tour at Turnberry Golf Club on July 26 in Brampton, ON, the third stop to date at this facility on the 2021 schedule.  Young golfers aged 12 and under competed for titles in six divisions at the event, where some great scores were posted.

London, ON, golfer Bryce Burridge, 10, made his second trip to the winner’s circle this year in the MJT Boys 9-10 Division at Turnberry Golf Club. Burridge recorded an 18-hole score of 58 to win by six shots, earning his second consecutive 2021 MJT Mini Tour title. “My putting wasn’t the best at the beginning, but I figured it out,” commented Burridge. “I was just happy to play in a golf tournament on the MJT and even more happy to get the win.” North York, ON, golfer Nathan Dai, 10, fired 64 to finish in the runner-up position.

The MJT Girls 11-12 Division continue to see the rise of 11-year-old Oakville, ON, twins Nobelle Park and Kaprice Park. Nobelle, who has picked up three consecutive runner-up finishes this year on both the MJT Junior and Mini Tours, earned her first win with a score of 63. “I think all of my game helped me win this tournament,” commented Nobelle. “I was nervous going into the tournament, but felt calm very quickly after and happy to get the win.” Kaprice, who won the two previous MJT Mini Tour events at Turnberry, shot 64 to finish in second just one shot behind.

Justin Chu, 11, of North York, ON, fired a score of 67 to take home the MJT Boys 11-12 title by three shots. Chu, who is playing his second year on the MJT Mini Tour, earned his first ever MJT win with his performance at Turnberry Golf Club. “I was really excited for this tournament and very happy to get my first MJT Mini Tour tournament win,” he said. “My short game and my caddy helped me get the win today.” Oakville, ON, resident Jacob Gilpin, 12, carded 70 to finish runner-up.

Krisline Truong, 10, of Mississauga, ON, in her second season on the MJT Mini Tour, secured her second ever MJT Mini Tour title in the Girls 9-10 Division with a score of 67. “My putting was the best it has been,” commented Truong, who took advantage of her short game skills to get the victory. “I knew I was unable to hit certain greens, so I focused on my chipping and putting.” Nine-year-old Kaeleigh Chung, of Richmond Hill, ON, fired a round of 76 to finish in second place.

Scarborough, ON, golfer Harrison Doucet, made his MJT Mini Tour debut at Turnberry Golf Club and earned his first win right away. The seven-year-old recorded a score of 76 and attributed his win to his ability to stay positive on the golf course. “I hit some great shots and some not so good shots, but I stayed positive,” commented Doucet. “I felt pretty good going into the tournament and very happy to get the win.”

Six-year-old Charlotte Black, of Paris, ON, (103) has become a well-known face on the MJT Mini Tour in Ontario competing in the Girls 8U Division for two full years. Black’s game has seen improvement in just three events this year and will look to continue that progression through her many years to come.
