Six take their turn at the top in MJT Mini Tour at Turnberry

Brampton, ON – (June 29, 2021) – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour season in Ontario officially started after a COVID-restricted delay with the first of a four-part series in Brampton - the MJT Mini Tour GTA #1 at Turnberry Golf Club on June 28. This event featured 18 holes of tournament golf for aspiring young golfers in six age divisions; in addition to four stops at Turnberry Golf Club, there are two more in Ontario this season - one at Markham Executive Course in Markham on August 3, and one at Whispering Ridge Golf Club in Brooklin on August 28.

After starting out on the MJT Junior Tour just two days ago at the Tangle Creek Golf Club event, 11-year-old Andy Dai came straight to Turnberry to play on the MJT Mini Tour in the Boys 11-12 Division and picked up his first win of the season. The Markham, ON, golfer recorded a score of 60, marking his second career MJT Mini Tour victory. Dai is successfully making the transition onto the Junior Tour with his win on the MJT Mini Tour.

The MJT Girls 11-12 Division saw 11-year-old Oakville, ON, golfer Kaprice Park, make her return to the MJT Mini Tour in Ontario and earn her first victory of the season. Park has picked up a couple of fourth place finishes on the Junior Tour already this season and fired a 64 at Turnberry Golf Club to earn her Mini Tour division title. Ellen Wang, 12, of Mississauga, ON, carded 72 to finish in second place.

In the MJT Boys 9-10 Division, a tight contest took place between 10-year-old Nathan Dai, of North York, ON, and 10-year-old Bryce Burridge, of London, ON. After 18 holes of play, it was Dai who came out on top shooting a score of 66. Dai got the exact start he wanted on the MJT earning his first win in his first ever MJT Mini Tour event. Burridge finished the tournament in second place with a score of 67.

Returning to the winner’s podium from last year in the MJT Girls 9-10 Division was nine-year-old Kaeleigh Chung. The Richmond Hill, ON, young golfer shot 68 to earn her first victory of the season and sixth win in two years on the MJT Mini Tour. Finishing the division in second place was eight-year-old 2020 MJT Mini Tour National Champion, Riviera Lindholm of Toronto, with a score of 72.

Aurora, ON-resident Kingston MacPherson shot 68 to take home the title in the MJT Boys 8U Division at Turnberry Golf Club. The seven-year-old golfer, who joined the MJT Mini Tour last year and racked up one win and three top-three finishes, started off on the right path in 2021 with his first win.

In the MJT Girls 8U Division, seven-year-old Soleil Lindholm, of Toronto, ON, fired a round of 91 to win by three shots. Lindholm, playing in her first ever MJT Mini Tour event, made a name for herself right away picking up the victory. Seven-year-old Angelina Chang, of Aurora, ON, carded 94 to finish in second place.

Full results from the event can be viewed here. The MJT Ontario 12U circuit returns to Brampton on July 13 for the MJT Mini Tour GTA #2 at Turnberry Golf Club. More information can be found on the website at www.maplejt.com.
