Klimczak-Elves and St. Laurent win MJT Mini Tour titles in Carman

Carman, MB – (August 21, 2021) – Canada’s number-one played junior golf tour recently hosted two events in the city of Carman, MB, where junior golfers aged 19U competed in six divisions in the MJT Manitoba Series at Carman Golf Club on August 19 and 20 and those aged 12U competed in two divisions in the one-day MJT Mini Tour at Carman Golf Club on August 19.

The experience of MJT veteran champion Noah Fiks came through in the MJT Junior Boys Division where Fiks made a great comeback from a six-shot deficit to win the division title and Low Overall by four shots. The 17-year-old golfer from Winnipeg, MB, fired rounds of 73 and 67 (140). “I felt pretty confident going into the tournament and my goal was to keep hitting fairways and greens,” said Fiks. “I am super pleased with my performance and the win feels awesome.” Trey Ross, 18, of Winnipeg, MB, recorded a pair of 72s (144) to finish in second place.

Crystal Zamzow, 15, of Swan River, MB, returned to the top of the podium in the MJT Girls 15-19 Division with rock solid scores of 72 and 79 (151). Zamzow’s performance at Carman Golf Club was good enough to win Low Overall Girls score in addition to her division title. “I had been working hard on my game and making changes, so I was a little nervous coming in,” mentioned Zamzow. “I was able to keep the ball in play and roll in a few more putts to get the win.” Clara Peake, 17, of Binscarth, MB, recorded scores of 82 and 84 (166) to finish runner-up.

In the MJT Juvenile Boys Division, Jack Taylor, of Winnipeg, MB, shot 72 and 73 (145) to pick up a two-stroke victory. With his performance at Carman Golf Club, the 16-year-old golfer earned his second victory in three events this year on the MJT Manitoba Junior Tour. “There’s lots of trouble for missing the fairway on this course and my tee shots were the best,” commented Taylor. “It feels really good to get the win after a disappointing finish in my last tournament.” Local Carman, MB, golfer Ryan Orchard, 16, was runner-up with scores of 73 and 74 (147).

In the MJT Girls U15 Division, 14-year-old Addison Kartusch, of Winnipeg, MB, shot 83 and 84 (167) to win her first MJT title of the year in style. The 2020 MJT Order of Merit winner, with her performance at Carman Golf Club, now sits tied atop of the 2021 MJT Order of Merit standings presented by RBC.  Jeri Lafleche, 14, of Winnipeg , MB, came second with scores of 95, 84 (179).

After winning a playoff at the last MJT event in Manitoba, 13-year-old Brayden Boge of Winnipeg picked up his second consecutive MJT Bantam Boys Division title with his play at Carman Golf Club. Boge recorded rounds of 72 and 73 (145) to win by six shots. “I hit the ball pretty straight and made a few putts,” commented Boge. “Given how I started, I feel pretty good about getting the win.” Carding scores of 74 and 77 (151) to finish runner-up was 14-year-old Jackson Delaurier, of Dauphin, MB.

The MJT Peewee Boys Division saw 12-year-old golfer Teerawut Boonseeor put on an impressive display of golf to claim the title in convincing fashion. Boonseeor, who originates from the country of Thailand, recorded scores of 73 and 68 (141) to win his first ever MJT event. “I felt proud of myself for winning the tournament,” commented Boonseeor. “My short game and putting were responsible for getting me the win.” Gavin Carver, 12, of La Salle, MB, took second place (81, 80=161).

Moving over to the MJT Mini Tour event on August 19, the MJT Boys 11-12 Division saw a three-way tied at the top of the leaderboard from three Winnipeggers. Archer Klimczak-Elves, 12, Aris Mercury, 11, and Lucas Semenchuk, 12, all recorded scores of 79 through 18 holes at Carman Golf Club. Taking home the title by countback was Klimczak-Elves. “I was very happy to win the tournament,” commented Klimczak-Elves. “My short game was good and got me the win.”

In the MJT Boys 9-10 Division, 10-year-old Ryder St. Laurent, of Ile Des Chenes, MB, carded 71 to win the title by five shots. “My driving was consistent, and my putter was great,” commented St. Laurent. “My putter saved me a few times after I got used to the speed of the greens.” Winnipeg, MB, golfer Owen Conrad, 10, was second with a score of 76.
