Markham, ON – (August 11, 2021) – The MJT Ontario Series at Bushwood Golf Club in Markham ran August 9 and 10, where junior golfers competed for titles in six divisions on Canada’s number one-played junior golf tour. Players were vying for valuable points on the MJT Order of Merit presented by RBC which qualify entries into the MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf in British Columbia.

Returning to the top of the MJT podium in the Girls 15-19 Division and winning Girls Low Overall score was 17-year-old Alessandra Christine Nagayo. The Toronto, ON, player fired rounds of 73 and 77 (150) to win in convincing fashion. “I found the course very hard but I just tried to have fun with the players I played with,” commented Nagayo. “I feel very happy getting the win on the MJT.” Runner-up was Swetha Sathish, 13, of Oakville, ON, who plays up a division and shot (81-79=160).

Sean He-Zimmerman, of Mississauga, ON, won the MJT Junior Boys title with scores of 72 and 75 (147). The 17-year-old golfer was playing in just his second MJT event of the year and earned his first ever MJT win. Curtis Coulson, 18, of Guelph, ON, fired scores of 79 and 74 (153) to finish runner-up.

After being tied for the lead going into day two, 15-year-old Tyson Roth, of Elmira, ON, pulled away with the victory in the MJT Juvenile Boys Division, taking home the title by three shots. Roth recorded scores of 75 and 74 (149) for his first ever MJT Junior Tour win after picking up two top-three finishes so far this season. “The swing felt really good and I was really positive going into the tournament,” commented Roth. “I didn’t putt very well on the first day, but I pulled it together on the second day and it felt amazing to win for the first time on the MJT.” North York, ON, resident, Shu Wen, 15, finished the division in second place with scores of 75 and 77 (152).

Angela Cai, 13, of Oakville, ON, returned to top spot in the Girls U15 Division after recording scores of 79 and 78 (157). Cai has gained some momentum on the MJT this year as she’s earned victories in three of her last four starts and currently sits on the top of the MJT Order of Merit presented by RBC. She will be looking to continue her strong finish at her next three events on the MJT, prepping for an appearance at the MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf.

Local Markham, ON, golfer Lucas Chi, won the MJT Bantam Boys title with scores of 72 and 74 (146). Chi, who played in his first full season on the MJT last year, picked up his first win in his first MJT event of the 2021 season. “I did a good job of overcoming my nerves to get the win,” commented Chi. “I hit some great approach shots and that led to my win.” Kitchener, ON, golfer Xavier Bernier, 14, fired 78 and 73 (151), climbing up the leaderboard to finish runner-up.
