Five MJT Mini Tour titles won at Moon Lake stop in Saskatoon

 

Saskatoon, SK – (July 21, 2020) - Under clear skies and pristine golf conditions, Canada’s number-one played junior golf tour swept into Saskatoon, SK, July 20, for the MJT Mini Tour at Moon Lake Golf and Country Club. The U13 stop ran the same day as round one of the two-day Maple Leaf Junior Tour event for older players also currently taking place at Moon Lake.

Oliver Matyczuk, 12, of Saskatoon, SK, took home the win in the MJT Boys 11-12 Division with a score of 79. With his performance at Moon Lake Golf and Country Club, Matyczuk, picked up his second consecutive win on the 2020 MJT SK Mini Tour circuit. “I had fun and just tried my best,” he said. “I tried to hit fairways and I putted really good. My par three’s were good.”

The MJT Boys 9-10 Division saw a tight race to the very end. It was 9-year old Austin Nesbitt , of Pilot Butte, SK, who carded a 77 to win the title by two strokes over Jackson Giesbrecht, 10, of Warman, SK. “It feels pretty good, especially knowing that I won here last year,” said Nesbitt. “It means I haven’t lost my magic.”

Melville, SK-resident Keaton Kreklewich edged out a one-shot victory in the MJT Boys 8U Division. The eight-year old golfer fired an 87 to win his third 2020 MJT SK Mini Tour event in three starts. “I feel awesome! Happy!” said an exuberant Kreklewich. “I found out I had won at the scoring table and was excited!” Seven-year old Jun Lee, of Regina, SK, carded an 88 to finish the division in second place. 

Yuna Lee, 10, recorded a score of 98 to win the MJT Girls 9-10 title. The Regina golfer, who began playing on the MJT SK Mini Tour this year, picked up her second win and has not finished outside the top three in any start. “I wanted to focus on my game, focusing is my strength,” she said. “I have been working hard and practicing. I improved this year!”

Regina-resident Tayla Perry, 11, fired a 99 to take home the title in the MJT Girls 11-12 Division. Perry, who picked up her first career win at Moon Lake Golf and Country Club, said, “I broke 100 for the first time – it was really fun. It’s very special because I have never won an event and didn’t play well in the other events.” Perry will be looking to build off her victory in future stops.
