Another strong turnout for players ages 7 to 12 in MJT Mini Tour at Goulet Golf Course

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour continued its growing circuit for young players ages 7 to 12 in Saskatchewan in Regina on July 5, with the MJT Mini Tour at Goulet Golf Course. Following new health and safety protocols set by MJT operations in accordance with the province of Saskatchewan, another sizeable field of junior golfers came out to compete for titles in five divisions.

The MJT Boys 11-12 title was captured by 12-year old Oliver Matyczuk with a score of 76. The Saskatoon, SK, player, who finished runner-up at the recent MJT Mini Tour stop at Elmwood Golf and Country Club in Swift Current, stepped to snag his second career MJT Mini Tour win. “It means a lot to win,” commented Matyczuk after the round. “My putting and chipping were pretty good.”

Shae Maunula, 10, of North Battleford, SK, fired a great round of 72 and won the MJT Boys 9-10 division by three strokes. “I worked hard,” commented Maunula. “And when I got tired, I pushed through.” Maunula made his first trip to the winner’s circle on the MJT Mini Tour with his performance on Sunday.

Recording his second victory in a row in the MJT Boys U8 division was eight-year old Keaton Kreklewich. The Melville, SK, junior golfer carded a 75 in the one-day event and attributed his win to the work he put into his short game, saying, “we have a putting and chipping green in our backyard and I was practicing lots there.”

Saskatoon-resident Poppy Hudye Baranesky, 11, carded an 89 at Goulet Golf Course to win the MJT Girls 11-12 Division, her second MJT Mini Tour title in as many starts. “I got the ball off the tee well,” said Baranesky. “I knew the golf course pretty well and I just worried about myself.”

Securing the win in the MJT Girls 9-10 Division by a single shot was 10-year old Sienna Taylor, of Saskatoon. Taylor fired a 99 to emerge victorious for the first time since competing on the MJT Mini Tour last year. “I kept it fun,” commented Taylor after her win. “My strategy was to just have fun.”

Full results of the event can be viewed here. The next U12 stop will be the MJT Mini Tour at Dakota Dunes Golf Links in Saskatoon on July 20. Registration for the event can be done online at www.maplejt.com.
