Future of golf looks good after successful finale to MJT Saskatchewan Mini Tour season

Warman, SK – (August 26, 2019) – After market demand encouraged a last minute introduction to the program, the inaugural Saskatchewan Mini Tour Season for players aged 12 and under on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour has been a success, with its last stop for 2019 running in Warman on August 25. Young golfers came out to compete in five divisions in the MJT Mini Tour at the Legends Golf Club, complementing the Junior Tour event for older and more experienced players that ran simultaneously.

Winning the MJT Boys 8U Division was Saskatoon, SK-resident, Peyton Olynick. The eight-year-old young golfer carded an 82 to win the division by two shots. “I had some good iron shots during my round and my chipping was good,” commented Olynick after his win.

The MJT Boys 9-10 Division was captured by Saskatoon’s Lucas Sturgeon. The nine-year-old upcoming star carded an 81 at The Legends Golf Club, his third win on his first full year on the MJT Mini Tour.

Oliver Matyczuk, 11, of Saskatoon, took home some hardware winning the MJT Boys 11-12 Division with a score of 86. Attributing his win to his play off the tee, Matyczuk commented, “My driving was the strongest part of my game. I only missed one fairway.”

Taking home the Low Overall Girls score for the tournament was Saskatoon’s Grace Odnokon, with a 97. The nine-year-old player acquired her second win of the Mini Tour season since the MJT Mini Tour at Chinook Golf Course in Swift Current. “I had a lot of fun playing in the mini tour events this year,” commented Odnokon. “I can’t wait for the events next year.”

Playing in her first career MJT Mini Tour event was Saskatoon-native, Alyssa Elliot, 12, who carded a 136 in the MJT Girls 11-12 Division. “I enjoyed my first tournament and I think the MJT does a great job,” she quoted afterwards.
