MJT Mini Tour Finale in Ontario plays out at Whispering Ridge

Brooklin, ON – (September 23, 2019) – The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour travelled to Brooklin, ON, on September 21, for its final 12U Mini Tour event of the season at Whispering Ridge Golf Club.

A talented group of young golfers between the ages of 7 and 12 competed for titles in six divisions, and taking home the trophy for MJT Girls 9-10 was nine-year-old, Nobelle Park. The Oakville, ON, golfer fired a 76 to win the division by four shots. “My driving was the strongest part of my game,” said Park, who competes out of the Glen Abbey Academy. This is Park’s first year on the MJT Mini Tour, and her first win. Coming in second place was nine-year-old, Kaprice Park, also of Oakville, who shot 80.

In the MJT Boys 9-10 Division, it was 10-year-old, Dawson Lew who emerged victorious for the second time this year. The Markham local fired a 76 which was good enough to win the division by three shots over 10-year-old, Connor Kanellis (79), of Whitby, ON. “Coming down the stretch, I felt nervous,” said Lew. “But I was able to calm myself down and finish strong.”

Dustin Zhao, of Maple, ON, shot a 93 in the MJT Boys 8U Division to win his first mini tour event of the season. Zhao, who previously racked up two second-place finishes, entered the winner’s circle with his performance at Whispering Ridge Golf Club. “Coming down the stretch, I was thinking that I wanted to win,” he said. At just seven years old, Zhao holds a lot of potential to become a force on the Mini Tour and in a couple of years, on the MJT Junior Tour.

A close contest took place in the MJT Girls 11-12 Division between 11-year-old, Angela Cai, of Oakville, and 12-year-old, Angelina Cai, of Stouffville, ON. After exchanging the lead multiple times during the round, it was Angela Cai who shot a 95 to come out on top of Angelina, who carded a 99 to finish four shots back in second place.

The MJT Boys 11-12 title was captured by 11-year-old, Tristan Zhang, of Toronto, ON. Zhang fired a 93 to win his first tournament of the year, holding off runner-up Robert Ciesielski, 12, of Mississauga, ON (126). “I played well,” said Zhang. “The best club was my driver.”

Competing in her first Mini Tour event in the MJT Girls 8U winner, Torontian Riviera Lindholm. The seven-year-old Lindholm shot a 102 to beat out runner-up Hennley Ladd, 8, of Pickering, ON. When asked about her thoughts coming down the stretch, Lindholm said, “I was thinking that this was a lot of fun!”

Full results including PLYR Closest-to-the-Pin competition winners are posted on the MJT website here. This was the last MJT Mini Tour stop of the year.
