Park, Cai win first MJT Mini Tour titles at Orangeville Golf Club

Orangeville, ON – (July 9, 2019) – The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf continued its Ontario circuit for 12U players, Saturday July 6, with the MJT Mini Tour at Orangeville Golf Club in Orangeville. The young golfers played an 18-hole tournament competing for titles in five divisions, as well as exemptions into the MJT Mini Tour National Challenge presented by Ford Canada in British Columbia later this summer.

Oakville, ON’s Kaprice Park, won the MJT Girls 9-10 Division with a score of 77. Park’s three birdies in her round, including one on the 18th hole, was good enough to beat 10 year-old, Brampton, ON native Francesca Ampil (79), by two shots. “I feel very happy to win my first tournament,” commented Park after collecting her trophy. “I really like playing on the MJT Mini Tour.”

In the MJT Boys 9-10 Division, 10 year-old, Harrison Zhang, carded a 75 to win by six shots over nine-year old, Richmond Hill, ON-player, Max Li (81). Zhang, a resident of Markham, ON, has now accumulated wins in both MJT Mini Tour events he’s played this year. “The highlight of the tournament was the two birdies I made on 15 and 16,” said Zhang, who had three birdies in his round.

11-year old, Angela Cai, captured the MJT Girls 11-12 Division with a score of 91 claiming her first MJT Mini Tour title since joining. The Oakville-player was victorious by six shots over Waterdown, ON-player Mariana Vivas, 11, who shot a 97. “It feels great to win a Mini Tour event because it’s my first,” said Cai who also earns a spot in the winner’s circle.

Richmond Hill-native, Evan Wee, 12, claimed the MJT Boys 11-12 title with a score of 93. Wee, who is playing his third year on the MJT Mini Tour, will be looking to make the transition to the Junior Tour very soon and continue his stellar performances there.

Eight-year old, Liam Ampil, won his second consecutive MJT Mini Tour event in Ontario claiming the Boys U8 Division at Orangeville Golf Club. The Brampton player shot a 90 to inch in front of eight-year old, Braxton Chan (92), of Toronto, ON.

Full results including PLYR Closest-to-the-Pin competition winners are posted on the MJT website here. The next MJT Mini Tour stop in Ontario is in Cambridge at Beaverdale Golf Club on August 3rd, 2019. For more information or to register, please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-4653.
