Six MJT Mini-Tour Players Earn Invitations to National Championship - Gu Stays Hot with Second Win in a Row

Fergus, ON – (July 9, 2018) – Eddie Gu, 8, of Aurora, ON continued his impressive run on the MJT Mini-Tour in 2018 by capturing the MJT Boys 8U division title for the second time in as many tries on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour, for players 12 and under, at Fergus Golf Club in Fergus, ON, July 7. His incredible round 64 was the low score of any age division by a total of ten shots.

Gu’s round was highlighted by eight birdies and an eagle, which he credits as his best hole of the tournament saying “Hole #5 on the east course was definitely my best hole of the day, because I made an eagle.”  Runner-up in was Max Li, 8, of Richmond Hill, ON, who shot 86.

MJT Boys 9-10: Jager Pain, 10, of Woodbridge, ON, fired matching 37’s on the east and west courses to solidify his victory in the MJT Boys 9-10 division. His 18 hole total of 74 was eight shots better than    Brayden Card, 9, of Cambridge, ON. Pain, who was a first time competitor on the MJT Mini-Tour this week, said “I feel really happy about winning my age division, it was a lot of fun to shoot a great score at these more challenging yardages.”

MJT Boys 11-12: Jameson Staab, 11, of Kitchener, ON won the MJT Boys 11-12 division with a round of 96. Staab, the sole competitor in the division, enjoys coming to MJT events because of “the short drive and ability to play 18 holes.”

MJT Girls 8U: Gracie McKee, 8, of Oakville, ON, was able to add another win to her resume by capturing the MJT Girls 8U division title. McKee put together a very solid round of golf which included shooting 36 on the east course. More importantly, McKee enjoyed herself on the golf course saying “I had a lot of fun playing with Ava (Asplen) today.” Asplen, 7, of Fergus, ON was the youngest competitor in the field and finished as the runner-up in the Girls 8U division.

MJT Girls 9-10: It took extra holes to determine a winner of the MJT Girls 9-10 division. Francesca Ampil, 9, of Brampton, ON and Juanita Beatrix Tandoc, 9, of Scarborough, ON finished the round tied at 82. Ampil was able to out-dual Tandoc and earn an invitation to the National Championship being held in Tsawwassen, BC later this summer. Tandoc had already secured an invitation based on her win earlier in the season at Beaverdale Golf Club.

MJT Girls 11-12: Jamie Roslyn Camero, 12, of Dubai, UAE is the first international champion on the Mini-Tour this season after finishing at the top of the MJT Girls 11-12 division. Camero shot 41 on both the east and west courses to total 82, good enough for a four stroke victory over Bridget Wilkie, 11, of Toronto, ON who finished at 86.

This event has qualifying spots for the US Kids Golf British Championship that will be held at Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales on August 9 & 10.
