Eight-year-old records tournament low at MJT Mini-Tour Stop in Cambridge, ON

Cambridge, ON – (June 11, 2018) – Eddie Gu, 8, of Aurora, ON was impressive on his way to capturing the MJT Boys 8U division title in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour for players 12 and under at Beaverdale Golf Club in Cambridge, ON, June 10, where his round of 72 was the low score of any age division by a total of six shots.

Gu’s best hole, according to him, was the 18th hole, “because I made a birdie!”  Runner-up in was Zach Lederer, 8, of Toronto, ON, who shot 85.

MJT Boys 9-10: Brayden Card, 9, of Cambridge, ON, fired an impressive 36 on the back nine to solidify his victory in the MJT Boys 9-10 division. His 18 hole total of 78 was four shots better than Gabriel Yazdani, 9, of London, ON. Card said, “I knew I needed to make par,” when asked what he was thinking on the last hole of the day, which ended up being more than enough for the win.

MJT Boys 11-12:  Luke Rogerson, 12, of Guelph, ON was solid from start to finish in capturing the MJT Boys 11-12 division title. Rogerson’s victory was by 12 shots as runner-up finisher Jameson Staab, 11, of Kitchener, ON, finished with a total of 91.

MJT Girls 8U: Juanita Beatrix Tandoc, 8, of Scarborough, ON, was able to improve on her runner-up finish in the first Mini-Tour stop of the season by capturing the MJT Girls 8U division title this time around. Tandoc was able to hold off Alexis Card, 7, of Cambridge, ON and Gracie McKee, 8, of Oakville, ON by two shots. Tandoc’s birdie on the 17th hole cemented the victory and achieved what she set out to do: “finish strong.”

MJT Girls 9-10: Swetha Sathish, 10, of Oakville, ON, won the MJT Girls 9-10 division for the second time in as many tries, this time by nine shots over Sophie Weber, 10, of Burlington, ON. Sathish credits the “yardage and competition” as the reason she has decided to play the MJT. “It was a great learning experience,” she added, proving players on the MJT are continuously challenging themselves to be better mentally and physically.

MJT Girls 11-12: Penetanguishene, ON’s Kylie Ruston, 11, took home her first Mini-Tour title of the season after finishing at the top of the MJT Girls 11-12 division. Ruston shot 87 which included a clutch par on the final hole. Runner up honours went to Ava Crane, 11, of North York, ON with a total of 94. Ruston was able to stay loose during the round thanks to her caddie: “My caddie and I have lots of fun and are laughing the entire time.”
