Kidd captures cup at MJT Mini Tour’s Red Deer stop in Alberta

Red Deer, AB – (June 11, 2018) – Tyler Kidd, 10, of Buck Lake, AB improved on his runner-up finish at the last MJT Mini-Tour stop in Alberta by capturing the MJT Boys 9–10 division title on Saturday, June 9, in the tournament at River Bend Golf and Recreation Area in Red Deer.

Kidd’s 69 was good enough for a four-shot victory over Dane Giesbrecht, 10, of Warman, SK. When asked why he plays the MJT, Kidd responded, “It is really fun and you get to meet a lot of new friends!”

MJT Boys 11-12: Playing in his first tournament ever, Scott Levey, 12, of Edmonton, AB, won the MJT Boys 11-12 division by six strokes over Leyton Arthur, 11, of Calgary, AB. Levey credits his short game for the win as he “birdied the third hole with a 20 foot putt” and he was able to make a lot of pars on the back nine to cruise to victory.

MJT Boys 8U: Jayden Arnold, 7, of Calgary, AB, was able to hold off Chase Strange, 8, of Airdrie, AB, by four shots to take home the MJT Boys 8U division title. Arnold’s best hole of the day came when he “drove the 140 yard par three, eighth hole.” The seven year old added that he likes to play in MJT events because “they are 18 holes.”

MJT Girls 8U: Eileen Park, 8, of Red Deer, AB, captured her second straight MJT Girls 8U Mini-Tour title by shooting an impressive 76. Park was able to hold off Aleah Shields-Rodipe, 7, of Calgary, who finished on a high note as she birdied the last hole to finish at 79.

MJT Girls 9-10: Stacie Hansen, 9, of Okotoks, AB, was victorious once again in the MJT Girls 9–10 division. Hansen was able to improve upon her score from the first Mini-Tour stop by four shots and even included a birdie on the 12th hole, which was, by no surprise, her favourite hole of day.

MJT Girls 11-12: Calgary, AB’s Jade Carter, 12, took home her first MJT Mini-Tour title of the season after finishing at the top of the Girls 11-12 division. Carter credits how much fun she has when she plays on the MJT as the reason she continues to play competitive golf.
