MJT Mini Tour at Tsawwassen Springs

A hot and windy day at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club in Tsawwassen, BC, led to a tough but great day for players aged 12 and under in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour Series on Saturday, June 4th, the third in a series of eight events in the provincal series which culminates in the MJT Mini Tour National Championship presented by Ford at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club in Tsawwassen this August.

The huge winds this past Saturday had the golf course playing tough. Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club’s Lauren Kim shot a tournament low two under par 68 to win the Atom Girls division. Jay Xu out of Richmond Golf Club fought through to take the Atom Boys division by carding a 76. Jay said afterwards, “when I missed greens, most of the time my short game saved me.”

In the Peewee Girls division, Angela Arora struggled through the opening four holes but grinded her way to an 85 to take the title. Angela said, “I love playing MJT Mini Tour events because firstly, all my friends play mini tour events and lastly, because there is a lot of competition.”

Andy Duan won the Peewee Boys division with a great score of 76. Andy said that he always stays positive on the golf course even if he hits a bad shot because that’s showing resilience, which is a core value at his school. When asked why he chose to play this event he said, “MJT is my favourite. Why? Besides the pizza, the people who host it are very nice and polite. If I hit a bad shot, they still cheer me on.”

The third consecutive MJT Mini Tour’s Boston Pizza Drive, Chip & Putt competition took place with multiple putt offs needed to determine the winners, who ended up being Jia An (Atom Girls), Tina Jiang (Peewee Girls), Max Mckenzie (Atom Boys) and Andy Duan (Peewee Boys).

The next MJT Mini Tour runs June 18 back at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club and players are encouraged to enter as soon as possible.
