July 11, 2016
Vancouver, BC

Sunny skies and warm weather were had at Musqeaum Golf Club in Vancouver, BC on Monday, July 11th, led to a great day of golf for the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour Series for players aged 12 and under, the sixth in a series of eight events in the province which culminates in the Mini Tour National Championship presented by Ford at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club in Tsawwassen this August.

Course conditions were phenomenal and just invited low scores! Bonnie Zhai of Surrey Golf Club and the Phil Jonas Academy carded a 67 to win the Atom Girls Division. Bonnie is looking forward to the Mini Tour National Championship at the end of August to compete against the best Juniors across Canada.

Justin Bjornson, from The Lab at Northview, took home the Atom Boys division by shooting a 2-over 62. Justin was quoted saying the main reason for his victory “My ball striking was really good today.”

In the Peewee Girls division, Coyote Creeks own Angela Arora, fast becoming a seasoned legend at this, shot a 76 to take the title.

Not be outdone by his younger brother, Bailey Bjornson, also out of The Lab at Northview, won the Peewee Boys division and tied the lowest score on the day by shooting a 2-over 62. Bailey said the reason he chose to play this MJT event was “because it was at a great golf course and they always put on a great tournament!”

The winners of the Chipping and Putting challenge were Jia An (Atom Girls), Angela Arora (Peewee Girls), Kelvin Xi (Peewee Boys) and - playing in his first ever golf tournament - Fred Yang (Atom Boys) hit the flag on his first chip to secure his division’s prize.

The seventh and final installment of the Mini Tour Series before the National event will be held Wednesday, August 10th at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club.
