MJT Mini Tour Series at Burnaby Mountain Golf Club

Another MJT Mini Tour Series was held on June 26, 2016, at Burnaby Mountain Golf Club in Burnaby, BC, where hot, dry weather encouraged some fine scoring from the competitors.

In the Atom Girls Division, Michelle Liu, of Vancouver, BC, was the clear winner shooting a 76.  Following the tournament, Liu felt the reason for her victory was “my putting” and stated that she chose to play in the event ‘because I want pizza!” 

June Hsiao, of Coquitlam, BC, was the runner up with a score of 83, and Vanessa Ziyue Zhang, also of Vancouver, captured third place with 89.

Ryan Burns, of Abbotsford, BC, and Emil Liddell, of Vancouver, shared top spot in the Atom Boys Division each scoring of 81. The trophy ended up with Liddell based on a skills competition, who was delighted with his finish and exclaimed that he plays MJT “because MJT is awesome!!”  Hot on the heels of top spot was Aaron Huang, of Vancouver, scoring 82.

The Peewee Girls Division saw Angela Arora, of Surrey, BC, repeat as champion with a score of 91.  Following the tournament, Aurora said, “All my competitors had me worried.  Especially Sierra on the 17th hole when she had a one-stroke lead, and Tina as well.”  Runner up was Tina Jiang, of Richmond, BC, scoring 93, and third place was Sierra Stubbs, of Delta, BC, shooting a 94.

Finally, in the Peewee Boys Division, Tanner McClure, of North Vancouver, BC, won first place with a score of 76.  McClure said he “made lots of putts when I needed to” and chose to play the MJT “because there are a lot of good players and I like the competition.” Ethan Posthumus, of Coquitlam, grabbed the runner-up spot, and tied for third with a score of 83 were Le Qi (Steven) Chen, of Surrey, BC, and Benjamin Kang, of Vancouver.

Each division winner receives a special MJT Mini Tour National Championship entrance package for the two-day season-ending finale presented by Ford at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Resort on August 25-26.

The next MJT Mini Tour Series returns to Musqueam Golf Club in Vancouver on July 11 and players are encouraged to enter as soon as possible.
