Great day for MJT Mini Tour at Nanton Golf Club

Nanton, AB – (May 31, 2016) – Beautiful weather and a nicely manicured Nanton Golf Club in Nanton, AB, led to a great day of golf for the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour / IMG Academy Junior Worlds Qualifier for players aged 12 and under on Saturday, May 28th, the first of two events in the province for this age group which will culminate at the MJT Mini Tour National Championship presented by Ford at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club in Tsawwassen, BC, this August.

In the Boys 7-8 Division, Jalen Apedoe, 7, of Calgary, claimed top honours with a solid round of 78 on the tough Par 60 layout in Nanton.  Apedoe ‘hit a bunch of good shots today’ and felt good about winning his division.  Lyndon Kurviyal, 8, of Taber, finished 10 back at 88 to take home the runner-up spot.

Jayden Barr, 9, of Calgary, played well carding a 70 and was excited to be short-listed for the Boys 9-10 Division for the IMG Academy Junior Worlds spot, citing that he ‘never gave up after my blow up holes today, and qualifying for Junior Worlds was my goal.’  Finishing in second place was Graysen Collins, 10, of Calgary, who played well en route to well fought 79.

Logan Graf, 12, of Red Deer, won the Peewee Boys Division with a solid performance shooting 81, three shots better than fellow Red Deer native Cole Bergheim, 12, who carded 84.  Graf credited his putting – “it was better than usual today and my ball striking was on point" - as the reasons for success.

Georgia Barr, 11, of Calgary, shot 84 to claim the Girls 11-12 division besting Banff's Brio Hempstead who finished second. 10-year old Jayla Kucy of Camrose, who recently competed in the National Championship of the Drive, Chip, and Putt Competition at Augusta National Golf Club, was Low Overall in the Girls 9-10 Division with a solid round of 69, and was also shortlisted for the prestigious event. Finalists will be announced once qualifying finishes up June 4th in Ontario.
