MJT Mini Tour’s Manitoba Talent Showcased in Junior Worlds Qualifier at Transcona GC

Winnipeg, MB. – (May 31, 2014) – Stellar performances by young Manitoba junior golf talent was the story of the weekend during the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Mini Tour Junior Worlds Qualifier at Transcona GC in Winnipeg, MB.  On a warm and sunny day, the kids came to the golf course with big smiles and a little nerves to play in the first Mini Tour (12 & Under) event in the province.

“What a day!” said MJT Tournament Director and PGA Professional, Ed Boge. “The conditions were great, the course was in awesome shape and a big thank you to the parents who did an excellent job of helping, educating and moving the kids along.”

Brynne Paschinski, 12, of Brandon was the inaugural winner in the Peewee Girls Division, playing some great golf en route to a solid 109. Paschinski, who was the lone competitor in the event, will be short-listed for the Peewee Girls spot for the Callaway Junior Worlds, credited her ability to “focus and stay calm” as her key to victory.

Ryan Carter, 7, of St. Andrews fired an incredible 89 to capture the Atom Girls Division, besting Tekla Tkach, 9, of Qu’Appelle, SK, who finished in second place. Carter has been away playing competitively in Florida over the winter, and her hard work has paid off, along with “no penalties (for the tournament).”

Braxton Kuntz, 10, of Winnipeg was absolutely amazing firing a 63 from the modified 3500 yard orange tees, taking the short-listed spot for the Callaway Junior Worlds for the Atom Boys Division.  Braxton’s key to success his weekend was his “short game and keeping the ball in play.” Adam Boge (CPGA Professional), who was ahead with his 8 year old son Austin, said “I was thoroughly impressed with Braxton’s game and enjoyed watching him hit tight all day long”.  The Bjornson brothers, Bailey (10) and Justin (8) of Winnipeg, finished 2nd and 3rd with some solid play of their own (68 & 71).

Wyatt Brooks, 12, of Oakbank, MB, claimed the Peewee Boys Division by 10 shots, as his 79 from the gold tees secured him the short-listed position for the final spot in the Callaway Junior Worlds.  “I was trying to stay focused and play every shot the best I could without getting frustrated“, stated Brooks, “it feels good to win!”  Brady Bandura, 12, of Selkirk shot 89, which was good for second place while Noah Johnstone, 12, of East St. Paul finished third with a 93.

Final results for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship qualifiers are now complete, and the winners will be announced on Monday, June 2nd.

The next MJT event in Manitoba is a multi day event for regular tour player - MJT Prodigy Series at Teulon G&CC in Teulon, MB.  For more information or to register please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-4653.
