Hildebrandt low overall on MJT at Caledon

Caldeon, ON – (August 4, 2014) – Considering the recent rains, Caledon Country Club in Caledon, ON, was in great shape for the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s two-day tournament on August 2nd to 3rd, where junior golfers from Alberta, Manitoba, Thailand and all parts of Ontario were competing for titles in eight divisions in the MJT Nationwide Series and MJT Mini Tour respectively.

“The Mini Tour was a hit with lots of kids and some good scores,” said Dylan Smallwood, MJT Tournament Assistant. These players are aged 12 and under and competed over 18 holes on August 2nd only. The Peewee Boys champion was Michael Ikejiani, 12, of Minesing, ON, who shot 77, and the Peewee Girls champion was Hailey Katona, 12, of Tilbury, ON, who fired 86. The Atom Boys champion was Eric Collier, 10, of Woodbridge, ON, who won with a fine score of 84, and the Atom Girls champion was Rozlyn Rooke, 9, of Milton, ON, who carded 86. In the regular MJT two-day Nationwide Series event for players up to age 19, some highlights of the first day was a great round in light rain of 72 even par by Brad Hildebrandt, 18, of Ancaster, ON, who followed it up with an even better 71 to shoot a one-under total of 143 and win low overall with his MJT Junior Boys 17-19 title. Christian Ethier, 17, of Haileybury, ON, was runner-up with scores of 77, 70 (147) while third place in this division was claimed by Thailand’s Jason Kerr, 19, of Pattaya , (75, 73=148). Additional awards in the division went to Connor McCrea of Burlington, ON, for the Mr. Lube Long Drive; to Aaron McIntyre of Winnipeg, MB, for the Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin, and to Connor Doucette of Waterloo, ON, for the Golf Town Comeback (best second day improvement in score).

It went to a playoff in the Juvenile Boys 15-16 division which was won by Justin Brazeau, 16, of New Liskeard, ON, who had fired 79, 75 (154) to tie for the lead with the back-to-back scores of 77 by Ty Kerr, 16, of Listowel , ON. Third place on the podium went to Brockville, ON’s Jordan Carr, 16, who shot 81, 76  (157). Both the Long Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin prizes were won by Jordan Carr of Brockville, ON, while Blake Mackey of Walkerton, ON, claimed the Comeback Award in the division.

A good opening score of 73 in Bantam Boys 14 and under by Ryan Trocchi, 14, of London, ON, ensured he won the division title with his final scores of 73, 77 (150). MJT stalwart Vince Greco, 14, of Bolton, ON, had his career best round of 74 on day two shooting 88, 74 (162) to come second, also taking home the Comeback Award and Closest- to-the-Pin. Jack Ferguson, 14, of St. Thomas, ON, placed third (79, 83=162). Manitoba’s Marco Trstenjak of Winnipeg won the division’s Long Drive prize.

Rayna Oosterhuis, 18, of Edmonton, AB, made the trip to the tournament worth her while by winning the MJT Girls division with solid scores of 86, 79 (165), earning the Comeback Award at the same time. Runner-up was Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi, 17, of Cambridge, ON (88, 83=171) and third was Kate Johnston, 16, of Ayr, ON (90, 98=188). Susanna Manziaris of Toronto, ON, won both the Long Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin among the Girls.

There are three more multi-day tournaments in August on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Ontario circuit before the MJT One Day Fall Series starts. These three multi-day events run August 16th to 17th at Osprey Valley Golf Club in Alton, August 23rd to 24th at Copetown Woods Golf Club in Copetown, and August 30th to 31st at Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo.
