Alton, ON – (August 18, 2014) – The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s two-day tournament at Osprey Valley Golf Course in Alton, ON, last weekend played out in the wet and cold on August 16th, which fortunately turned on August 17th with weather perfect for great scoring conditions.

“Osprey was in fantastic shape and proved to be a good challenge for all of our players. We had some great battles in each of the four divisions through the rain and wind, and then on day two only Jack Quirke was able to maintain his lead in the Junior Boys 17-19 and win,” said Mike Skimson, MJT Tournament Director. “All the other winners came from behind.”

Jack Quirke, 17, of Waterloo, ON, fired back-to-back rounds of 74 for a 148 total, winning Low Overall and the MJT Junior title over both Devin Bartlett, 17, of Cambridge, ON (77, 75=152) and Jason Kerr, 19, of Pattaya, Thailand (76, 76=152).

In the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 division, Dennis Weber, 15, of Ancaster, ON, pulled ahead of the pack to win his first title with fine rounds of 74, 76 (150), holding off runner-up Nathan Douglas, 14, of Thornhill, ON (79, 75=154),  by four strokes. Third spot on the podium went to Trevor Corner, 16, of Mississauga, ON, who shot 79, 76 (155).

It took a playoff to decide the MJT Bantam Boys 14 and under title after both Angelo Giantsopoulos, 14, of Richmond Hill, (78, 74=152) and Ewan MacBain, 14, of Toronto, ON (77, 75=152) tied for the lead after 36 holes. Giantsopolous won on the first playoff hole. Vince Greco, 14, of Bolton, ON, came third in the division (81, 74=155).

Sydney Shaw, 17, of Orchard Park , NY, made the trip to the tournament worth her while with a stellar closing round of 77 to win the MJT Girls division by two strokes (89-77=166) over Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi, 17, of Cambridge (86-82=168). Cynthia Zhao, 14, of Toronto, came in third place with scores of 87, 82 (169).

Winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Lachaine-DeMarchi, Greco, Myles Schulz of Orangeville, ON, and Devin Bartlett of Cambridge. Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Cynthia Zhao, Alex Wyndham-West of King City, ON, Nathan Douglas of Thornhill, ON, and Hayden Edworthy of Cambridge.
