Wind and rain lash junior golfers at MJT- Golf Saskatchewan Junior Order of Merit Championship

Warman, SK – (August 25, 2014) – Terrible winds and rain tormented the young golfers trying to finish off the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s 2014 Saskatchewan season at the Legends Golf Club in Warman, SK, on August 23rd and 24th , where trophies were up for grabs in four divisions in the MJT- Golf Saskatchewan Order of Merit Championship.

Despite the weather setback, Kyle Wiebe, 18, of Madison, SK, birdied three out of the last four holes and shot 73, 74 (147) to win Low Overall and the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 division by two strokes over Tyrin Foley, 18, of Bengough, SK (73, 76=149). “I feel satisfaction knowing my game is still there,” said Wiebe. “It’s been a rough year so winning the final tourney is a good way to finish.” Justin Wood, 19, of Unity, SK, rounded out the top three spots in the division (73, 77=150).

The MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 winner was Roman Timmerman, 15, of Saskatoon, SK, who pulled through the conditions with scores of 75, 79 (154) for a two-stroke victory over Jordan Unger, 16, also of Saskatoon, (76, 80=156). “Battling the wind and rain was key,” said Timmerman, who added he enjoyed the round with his ‘good buds’ despite the rough conditions. “The course was pure and the greens were quick. It’s an awesome feeling to get my first MJT title of the year.” Third place in the division went to Kirk Humphrey, 16, of Eastend, SK, who shot 77, 83 (160).

“I knew no-one was going low today so all I had to do was make par,” was the comment from MJT Bantam Boys 14 and Under winner, Andrew Campbell, 14, of Saskatoon, who played solid golf with round of 75, 78 (153) for a six stroke victory in his division. “The course was great but the conditions weren’t good with the bad weather. I am really proud of myself – it feels great (to win).” Runner-up was 13-year-old Jordan Bean of Saskatoon, who carded 74, 85 (159) and Steven Duchscher, 14, also of Saskatoon, finished third (80, 85=165).

And in the Girls division, Lisa Reid, 19, of Regina, SK, capped off her junior career with another MJT Girls title, shooting 80, 42 (122) for a weather-shortened 27-hole tournament win. “This is my last junior event and it feels amazing to come out on top. I just want to say thanks to (MJT Tournament Director Jeff Chambers) and everyone on the MJT team for running a great program. I’m for sure going to miss it!” Chloe Sies, 15, of Melville, SK (85, 48=133) secured second place and third place went to Kayla Sawchuk, 15, of Prince Albert, SK (92, 46=138).
