Perfect weather caps off MJT’s Ontario series at Cambridge Golf Club

Cambridge, ON – (October 14, 2013) – Perfectly warm and sunny weather was enjoyed by the field of competitive junior golfers during the 2013 final stop in the MJT Nationwide One Day Fall Series on the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, which ran Saturday, October 12, at Cambridge Golf Club in Cambridge, ON.

Low overall and the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 title was won by Charles Corner, 17, of Cayuga, ON, who fired a 73 to hold off three others in his division by one shot. “My putting was good and the greens were pure,” said Corner. “The win feels good – it’s my first of the year.” The three runners-up who shot 74 were Wesley Day, 17, of Ajax, ON, Paul Edgar, 17, of Kitchener, ON, and William Langford, 18, of Port Hope, ON.

The MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 title was won by Trevor Corner, 16, of Mississauga, ON, with a score of 76. “I made a lot of really good putts to save pars throughout the day,” he said. “It feels really good - I had a frustrating year and this is my first win.” Two strokes back at 78 and tied for second place were Thomas Hunt, 15, of Georgetown, ON, and Minwoo Park, 15, of Toronto, ON.

Nicklaus Naumovski, 14, of Hornby, ON, claimed the MJT Bantam Boys 14 and under title in a play off after tying for the lead at 74 with Kevin Doran, 14, of Sharon, ON. “Kevin had me worried,” said Naumovski about his thoughts coming down the stretch. “The shot I had on the last hole felt good. I feel great (about winning)!” Third place went to Ben Davies, 14, of Cambridge, who shot 76.

A score of 79 won the MJT Girls division title for Michelle Ruiz, 18, of Mississauga, who attributed the win to her practicing and rated the conditions as ‘perfect.’ Monica Gabriele, 17, also of Mississauga, shot 84 to place second, and third place went to Kristen Wong, 16, of Richmond Hill, ON (93).

Divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Monica Gabriele, Kyle Chung of Mississauga, Aaron Black of Grimsby, ON, and Wesley Day, while the Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Kristen Wong, Kevin Doran, Trevor Corner and Ben Whiteside of London, ON.
