McMinniman, Gallupe and Ross take MJT titles at Mactaquac

Fredericton, NB – (July 29, 2013) – The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Nationwide Series at Mactaquac Golf Club successfully concluded Sunday in Mactaquac, NB, where a field of competitive junior golfers battled it out for division titles and fine scores were posted over the July 27th and 28th weekend. A team interclub was also conducted as part of the tournament, and won by the Fox Creek Golf Club junior members of Simon Richard, Marc Andre Belanger and Alexandre Mercure of Dieppe, NB, with Maxime Gaudet of Memramcook, NB, who were awarded free entry into the MJT Collegiate-Bound Series at Andersons Creek Golf Course in Hunter River, PE, on August 10th and 11th.

A stellar opening round of four-under-par off the back tees secured eventual victory in the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 division for Corey McMinniman, 16, of Fredericton, who finished 68, 74=142 to win by three strokes over Jordon Birt, 14, of Charlottetown, PE, who plays up a division (72, 73=145). There was a tie for third at 148 total score between Danek Hadley, 15, of  Bathurst, NB (77, 71) and Simon Richard, 16, of Dieppe, NB (74, 74).

Matt Gallupe, 19, of Dartmouth, NS, made the trip to the tournament worth his while after firing 76, 70=146 to take the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 title by three strokes over both Peter Frenette, 17, of Hanwell, NB (78, 71) and Marc-Andre Belanger, 18, of Dieppe, (76, 73) who tied at 149 total score.

Carding a brilliant six-under-par off the MJT Bantam division’s tees during the tournament was Calvin Ross, 14, of Fredericton, who fired outstanding rounds of 73, 66=139 to win the Boys 14 and under title in style. Runner-up to Ross was Mario Lajoie, 14, of St-Antoine Nord, NB, who shot 76, 70=146, followed by third place finisher Sam Reid, 14, of Moncton, NB, who scored 77, 75=152.

Divisional winners of the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Mario Lajoie of Royal Oak Golf Club, 
Simon Richard of Dieppe and Fox Creek GC and Mitchell Furlotte of Gowan Brae Golf Club  in Bathurst, NB, while winners of the Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition were Sam Reid of Royal Oaks Golf Club,
Owen Patterson of Bedford, NS, and Ashburn Golf Club, and Isaac Pitre of Charlottetown , PE, and  Belvedere Golf Club. Golf Town Comeback Awards for best second day improvement in scores went to Nathan Hogan and Tyler Carroll of Bathurst and Gowan Brae Golf Club,  and Brandon MacDonald of The Links at Penn Hills, Shubenacadie, NS.
