Gavin Secures National Championship spot at MJT’s inaugural New Brunswick event
Moncton, NB – (June 11, 2012) – Junior golfers were welcomed to the first-ever Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) event in New Brunswick this past weekend, where the MJT-PGA of Canada Atlantic Junior Championship featured a great field of players at Royals Oaks Golf Club in Moncton. Newly appointed MJT Tournament Director and five-time Atlantic Canada Teacher of the Year, Louis Melanson, along with his MJT Atlantic Staff, produced a first-class event which was ranked by Golf Canada on the CN Future Links National Order of Merit, and was also a qualifier for the MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship presented by Callaway Golf at the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, this November.
Tyson Gavin, 15, of Tignish, PEI, fired a phenomenal opening round of 66 and closed with a 78 to make his Boys 14-16 division and low overall win look easy, ensuring he scooped the spot into the MJT National Championship in Arizona. Runner-up in his division with two solid rounds of 72-75 was Quinton Gorman, 16, of Stratford, PEI, followed by Travis Soucoup, 16, of Sussex, NB, who carded 77-75 to place third.
