Fredborg fires 8 under to win final MJT stop in Manitoba

Winkler, MB – (August 29, 2012) – Players in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) Manitoba Series at Winkler Centennial Golf Club, which was held in Winkler on August 27-28, enjoyed conditions ideal for scoring with immaculate greens and two days of great weather and to finish off their provincial season, and it certainly showed in the results.

Travis Fredborg, 16, of Selkirk, MB, fired outstanding rounds of 69-65 (134) to blitz the course, winning the MJT Boys 14-16 title and Low Overall, which comes with an exemption into the Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour’s Championship at McCormick Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, this December. “I don’t think that I missed a putt inside 10 feet both days,” said Fredborg, “It feels great to win again. This is my third title in a row and it is just a great feeling!” There was a tie for second place in the division, after both Cole Peters, 16, of Steinbach, MB, (69-72), and Josh Neufeld, 15, of Altona, MB, (70-71) carded excellent rounds of 141.

In the Boys 17-19 Division, Jeff Bleue, 19, of Oakbank, MB, stated, “I just tried to hit good shots and keep my nerves and let everything take care of itself,” and went on to win the gold medal with rounds of 74-77 (151). Bleue made a solid eight footer on the 18th hole of regulation to win, besting three players who tied for second place just one stroke back - Brayden Twist, 18, of Portage la Prairie, MB, PJ McIvor, 17, of Winnipeg, MB, and Brett Zdebiak, 18, of Gimli, MB, who all carded two day scores of 152.

13-year-old Timothy Brabant of Winnipeg took home his first MJT title after closing with a superb 67 on day two, firing rounds of 73-67 (140) in a very close match to edge out Ted Glass, 13, of Winnipeg (70-73=143), by three shots. Finishing third and claiming the bronze medal was first round leader Cameron McIntyre, 13, of Winnipeg, who played some great golf (69-75 =144).

Dana Todd, 17, of Winnipeg, had a fantastic two days of golf, shooting 71-74 (145) to easily win the Girls Division title. “I tried to stay aggressive on the last few holes,” stated Todd. “This was a great way to finish off my competitive year.” Runner-up and claiming the silver medal was her 14-year old sister, Brynn Todd, who carded 88-85 (173) while third place went to Camryn Roadley, 13, from Winnipeg, who shot 94-86 (180).

The divisional Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition was won by Cameron McIntyre, Bailey Funk of Steinbach, Nicolas Doyle of Winnipeg, and Dana Todd, while the Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin went to Auzzie Loewen of Selkirk, Myles Panciera of Winnipeg, Landon Kopp of Lorette, and Lexie Kopp of Winnipeg.
