FLEMING FIRST AT MJT'S 1ST CHOICE SAVINGS ONE DAY SERIES STOP

Getting out of the gates early in the Boys 17-19 Division were MJT veterans Riley Fleming, 17, of Airdrie, and Jason Fritz, 18, of Lethbridge, both carding even par rounds of 71. Fleming won the title via countback, but it was the finish of regulation play that made it interesting as he was two down coming into the 18th hole, hit his approach shot in tight and made birdie. Fritz was on in regulation but three-putted to end the day. Fleming stated, “Jason really deserved to win - he hit it great. My group of Jason and Mack (Penner) were lots of fun, it was a perfect grouping.” Finishing in third place was Brett Hogan, 17, of Calgary, who shot 72 and will receive a spot (based on age criteria) into a US Junior Amateur Regional Qualifier with funding provided by the MJT and Travel Underwriters.

Winning the Boys 14-16 Division was Derek Roach, 15, of Calgary, who carded a solid round of 77, en route to a three shot victory over Jason Martens, 14, of Edmonton. Of his win, Roach said, “It feels great to win, it is my first tournament this year and I putted really well. Hope it continues!” Finishing in third place was Ryan MacBeath, 16, of St. Albert.

In the Boys 13 & Under Division, Brendan Brown said he “rolled the putter beautifully, it was on fire”, which was the main reason for his win on Saturday. Brown, 11, of Calgary, shot 74 to card a five shot victory over his closest competitor, Lachlan Spriddle, 13, of Lethbridge. Rounding out the top three was first time MJT player Michael Valk, 12, of Medicine Hat.

Jamieson Smeaton, 18, of Lethbridge played a solid round of 94 to beat Shannon Raina, 18, of Calgary, and win the Girls Division title, citing “good putting, with very few three putts” for her victory.

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Brendan Brown, Joel Douglas, Riley Fleming, and Jamieson Smeaton. The Sundog Skills competition divisional winners were Brown, Brant King, Mason Rabinovitch and Smeaton. Winners of the Golf Town Comeback Awards were Curtis Webster, Matthew Ritchot, Jordan Taylor, and Shannon Raina.
