HAMARA QUALIFIES FOR CAN-USA TEAM MATCHES AT MJT’S NEW WINDSOR STOP

Windsor, ON – (July 12, 2010) –
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) visited Windsor for the very first time in its 12 year history on the July 10th and 11th weekend, to introduce players in the region to Canada’s only national junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals, and qualify an eligible player for the Future Collegiate World Tour (FCWT) CAN-USA Team Matches at the Ritz Carlton at Dove Mountain Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona, USA, December 11th and 12th.

Three year MJT member, Dylan Hamara, 17, of Cambridge and Whistle Bear Golf Club, fired 72-70 (142) to win the Boys 17-19 gold medal by seven strokes, and claim the spot to Tucson. “Coming down the stretch I was thinking, ‘I want to shoot 69 so I need to make birdies…,’” he said, noting that his competitors had him worried from the start. “Key to my victory was that my wedges were going close.”
Runner-up to Hamara in his division was Anthony Dadamo, 18, of Windsor and Sutton Creek Golf Club, who carded 72-77 (149) for the silver medal, while A.J. Flanagan, 17, of St. George and Whistle Bear Golf Club, took bronze (80-77=157).

A sizzling 69 on day one followed up by a 73 on day two from Tyler Pope-Ferguson, 16, of Amherstburg, easily secured him the Boys 14-16 gold medal over fellow Pointe West Golf Club junior, Rick Voyvodic, 16, of LaSalle (71-79). “My 69 on day one was the highlight for me,” said Pope-Ferguson. “Ricky had me worried the first day, but I was hitting fairways and greens.” There was a tie for third place at 154 total score between Connor Teno, 16, of Tecumseh and Beach Grove Golf Club, who carded back-to-back rounds of 77, and Jordan Hutchings, 15, of Woodslee and Kingsville Golf Club (76-78).

Brendan Seys, 12, of Port Lambton and Baldoon Golf Club, battled it out with Waterloo’s Connor Doucette, 13, of Whistle Bear Golf Club, in the Boys 13 and under division, to claim a come-from-behind victory after posting scores of 80-81 (161) to Doucette’s 79-83 (162). “I made good up and downs,” summed up Seys. “My highlight was hitting it to within four feet on (hole) 14.”

Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition awards were presented to Seys, Pope-Ferguson and Dadamo. The Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin competition winners were Doucette, Voyvodic and Dadamo. Highlighted for the Golf Town ‘Comeback Awards’ were Seys and Calvin Fujimoto-Cassidy, 15, of Amherstburg.
