CONNERS CLAIMS LEAD AT LISTOWEL

LISTOWEL, ON – Rain throughout the day hampered young golfers during the first stop on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) inaugural one-day Ontario Fall Series at Listowel Golf Club in Listowel on September 13th . The event is the first in a series of four one-day tournaments for the national program in the province; the other three stops run September 27 at Dundee Golf Club in Dundee, October 11th at Foxwood Golf Club in Baden, and October 25th at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge.

The weather did not deter local Corey Conners, 16, however, who enjoyed his home course advantage and fired 71 to edge Chris Hemmerich, 15, of Kitchener, by one shot to claim low overall and the Boys 14-16 division title. Third place in this division went to Truman Tai, 14, of Markham, who shot 76. Hemmerich won their Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition and Neil Khosla, 16, of Mississauga, won the Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin Competition.

The Boys 17 and up division was won by Spencer Buck, 17, of Etobicoke, who fired 74 to beat runner-up Chad Currie, 17, of Owen Sound, by one stroke. Buck also won the Long Drive prize. Sterling Emery, 17, of Orangeville, carded 78 to place third in the division.

Matt LeMay, 12, of Waterloo, continued his fine play on the MJT with a score of 76, winning the Boys 13 and under division title over Brandon Raine, 12, of Caledan, who shot 94. LeMay won the Long Drive while Raine took the Closest-to-the-Pin.

Dave Smallwood, MJT Tournament Director, remarked that it was a pleasure to play the Listowel Golf Course and that the players were well received. “I look forward to continuing this new series in Dundee next weekend,” he added.
