Dupere Exempt for National Championship at MJT`s Beloeil

BELOEIL, QC – The first of two tournaments scheduled for Quebec this season on the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s only national junior tour run by Canadian PGA Professionals, ran July 31st and August 1st at Beloeil Golf Club in Beloeil.

Niko Dupere, 17, of St. Eustache, fired 77-74 (151) to win the Boys 17 and up division and low overall score for the field, earning an exemption into the MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship at Nicklaus North Golf Club in Whistler, British Columbia, later this month. Runner-up to Dupere in his division was Jean Francois Godbout, 17, of St-Nicephore, who shot 78-86 (164). Third place was a tie at 166 total score between Maxime Mireault, 17, of Joliette (81-85), and Mikhail Plante of Laval (79-87).

Beloeil juniors dominated the podium in the Boys 14-16 division, with Patrick Duquette, 16, shooting 76-78 (154) to win the champion’s trophy, and Alexandre Ouellet, 16, placing second with scores of 79-82 (161). Francis Leduc, 15, of St. Therese, took third spot after firing 82-84 (166).

After Philip Remillard, 13, of St. Bruno, and Eric-James Boffey, 12, of Brossard, tied for the lead at 168 total score in the Boys 13 and under division, a playoff ensued and Remillard claimed victory on the first playoff hole. Hugo Bernard placed third in the division just one stroke back, with scores of 83-86 (169).

Alexandre Pelletier, 15, of Delson, was the sole girl in the field, and carded 96-94 (190).

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Philip Remillard, Patrick Duquette and Tyler Collett, 17, of Greenfield Park. The Sundog Skills Competition divisional winners were Hugo Bernard, Pier-Luc Piche, 14, of Boucherville, and Mikhail Plante.
