McLellan Scores Low Overall at MJT`s TRURO STOP

TRURO, NS – The second tournament of the three-event Atlantic Canada series on the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s only national junior tour run by Canadian PGA Professionals, ran July 30th and 31st at the Mountain Golf Club in Truro, NS.

Thomas McLellan, 17, of Halifax, played his final five holes at one-under-par to win the Boys 17 and up division title by five strokes and claim the low overall tournament score by one. In the Boys 14-16 division, Craig Dale, 16, of Truro, put up a great fight for low overall against McLellan by posting one-under on his back nine, but still the solid McLellan would not give in. After a pivotal 13th hole, which saw McLellan triple bogey and Dale birdie to pull into a tie, Dale bogeyed both the par three 16th and 18th holes, while McLellan's four-foot par putt on 18 sealed the victory.

Runner-up to McLellan in the Boys 17 and up division was Nicholas MacInnis, 17, of Antigonish, who shot 80-74 (154). Third place was a tie at 160 total score between Josh Bouchie, 18, also of Antigonish (80-80), and Nick Sutherland, 17, of New Glasgow (78-82).

Runner-up to Dale in Boys 14-16 was Marc Young, 16, of Bridgewater, who fired 83-72 for a 155 total score. Third place went to Sean Fraser, 15, of Sackville, who posted scores of 83-73 (156).

The Boys 13 and under division title was won by Neal Ryan, 12, of Antigonish, who shot 85-89 (174) to edge runner-up Corey Beaver, 13, of Truro, by one stroke. Myles Creighton, 11, of Digby, came in third (95-97).

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Corey Beaver, Sean Fraser and Nicholas MacInnis. The Sundog Skills Competition divisional winners were Neal Ryan, Marc Young and Nick Sutherland.
