PALMER CRUISES TO VICTORY IN MJT’S FINAL ONTARIO STOP

CAMBRIDGE, ON – The final regular season stop in Ontario on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) ran August 14th, 15th and 16th at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge, ON. The 54-hole event on the superb, demanding golf course attracted a field of top juniors from Alberta, BC and all over Ontario.

Kevin Palmer, 18, of Sarnia, ON, and Sarnia Golf Club, closed with an excellent three-under-par 69 to finish at 219 total score over the three days (73-77-69), claiming low overall and the Boys 17 and up division title. Second place in this division was a tie at 230 total score between a Galt Country Club junior, Bryan Germann, 17, of Kitchener, ON, (78-80-72) and Mac Walrath, 18, of Edmonton, AB, (77-80-73), who plays out of Mayfair Golf and Country Club. Fourth spot went to another Galt player, Ben Deignan, 17, of Cambridge.

Humber Valley Golf Club junior, Spencer Buck, 15, of Etobicoke, ON, fired 84-71-74 (229) to win his first MJT title in the Boys 14-16 division this season, edging runner-up Brent McKenzie, 14, of Cambridge, by one stroke. McKenzie, a junior at Galt Country Club, shot 79-76-75 (230). Tied for third place in the division at 233 total score was Jordan Roemer, 16, of Cobourg, ON (84-75-74), and Dalewood Golf Club, and Deerhurst Resort’s Braeden Cryderman, 16, of Huntsville, ON (79-76-78).

13-year-old Brad Burgess of Caistor Centre, ON, and Southbrook Golf and Country Club, racked up another MJT win among boys 13 and under after shooting 85-75-72 (232). Ryan Borg, 11, of Mississauga, ON, came second (79-83-75=237) while Truman Tai, 12, of Markham, ON, placed fourth (88-79-79=246).

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Truman Tai, Mike Rizetto, 15, of Brantford, and Mac Walrath. The Sundog Skills competition divisional winners were Matt LeMay, 10, of Waterloo, ON, Justin DaSilva, 16, of Cambridge, and Richard Gillberg, 18, of Bolton, ON.
