The Willows Hosts Fantastic Finale to MJT Saskatchewan Season

SASKATOON, SK – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s 4th annual MJT-CPGA Saskatchewan Junior Championship presented by AirSource successfully concluded at The Willows Golf Club in Saskatoon on July 5th, after two days of hot, sunny weather. The full field of competitive juniors came from Manitoba, Alberta and all over Saskatchewan, to compete for their respective division titles.

Tim Acaster, 17, of North Battleford, SK, was crowned MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Boys 17 and up Champion after firing rounds of 70-72 for a one-under par 142 total score. Acaster beat runner-up Nolan Hamilton, 18, of Calgary, AB, who shot 72-72 (144). Tied for third place in the division at 146 was Jaylan Arndt, 18, of Maple Creek, SK (72-74) and Mitchell Zaba, 17, of Deer Valley, SK (74-72).

Acaster’s win gains him an exemption into the North American Junior Championship at The Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels, Texas, this December. He also previously qualified through the MJT to compete in the Scotland Kingdom of Fife Team Matches in St. Andrews, Scotland, this August.

The MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Boys 14-16 Champion was Michael Hiltz, 15, of Coronach, SK, who posted scores of 71-81 for a 152 total, edging Chad Lavallee, 16, of Meadow Lake, SK, by two strokes. Lavallee, who shot 75-79 (154), was the lucky recipient of the $500 AirSource bursary for boys awarded at the tournament. Mike Herperger, 14, of Humboldt, SK, took third place in the division with rounds of 81-74 (155).

A sudden death play-off decided the Boys 13 and under Champion after Jehremy Ryde, 13, of Eston, SK (76-80) tied for first place with Jordan Arndt, 13, of Furdale, SK (78-78). Ryde birdied the first play-off hole to take the title. Scott Mazur, 13, of Winnipeg, MB, took third place after shooting 84-82 (166).

Kyla Reay, 17, of Saskatoon, continued her winning form on the MJT and was crowned MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Girls Champion after firing 78-73 (151) and running away with yet another division title. Reay is also off to St. Andrews, Scotland, in August, along with Acaster on MJT Team Canada. Kim Morrison, 14, of Saskatoon, SK, placed second to Reay with scores of 85-89 (174), while Breanna White, 15, of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, came third (88-87=175). Another fortunate girl was Kaitlyn Jahnke, 14, of Herbert, SK, who was drawn as the winner of another $500 AirSource bursary.
