Five-under-par Opener Secures Victory for Bania in MJT?s London Event
LONDON, ON ? Lightning and rain threatened to halt play in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour?s stop at Forest City National Golf Club in London this past weekend, but the competitive young golfers hung in and managed to successfully complete two rounds.
Mark Bania, 18, of Kitchener, claimed his second win in a row on the MJT by posting scores of 67-78 for a 145 total, taking the Boys 17 and up division title and low overall score for the 36-hole tournament. ?The highlight for me was shooting a 5-under-par 67 to open with a 6 shot lead, my largest lead in an important event,? said Bania, who plays out of Galt Country Club.
Runner-up to Bania in the division was Maple Leaf Team Canada member Kori Paquette, 18, of London, who shot 73-74 for a 147 total. One stroke back in third place was Josh Melnick, 18, of Leamington (73-75=148), a junior at Eric Shores Golf Club.
Breaden Cryderman, 15, of Huntsville, shot 73-75=148 to beat Nick Beaudoin, 16, of Burlington, by five strokes, winning the Boys 14-16 division. Cryderman?s iron play was the difference, as he hit 14 out of 18 greens in regulation during the final round. This together with good putting saved him from a couple of early bogeys as he followed them up with a few birdies to keep his lead intact.
