GAUTREAU CROWNED ONTARIO PGA JUNIOR CHAMPION AFTER PLAY OFF

Markham, ON ? The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour held the second annual Ontario PGA Junior Championship presented by Mazda Canada at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham this past weekend.

The weather conditions for the junior golfers, who played both the South and North Courses at the superbly conditioned Angus Glen facility, were generally hot, humid and windy, especially during the second round.

The highlight of the two day Mazda-sponsored event was in the Boys 17 and up division, where William Gautreau from Niagara Falls beat Andrew Egerter from Thorold on the third extra hole of a play off after they both tied for first place with a total 36 hole score of 149.

Gautreau, who clinched the Ontario PGA Junior Champion title for the tournament, shot 75-74 to force the play off after Egerter?s first round of 74 was followed by a 75.

Tied for third in the same division were Matt McKelvie from Stony Creek and Steven Drake from Findlay, Ohio. McKelvie shot 78-75 for a 153 total, matched by Drake?s 77-76=153.

The Ontario PGA Junior Boys 14-16 Champion was Todd Hutcheson from Ingersoll, who shot 75-79 for a 154 total score. Josh Bamberger from Waterloo made a hard charge with a final round of 74 under hot windy conditions to finish in second place (82-74=156), two strokes back of Hutcheson.

In third and fourth place respectively were Cody Pickard from Thornhill (81-81=162) and Maximillian Bianchi from Woodbridge (82-81=163).

Adrianna DiLonardo from Niagara Falls was crowned the Ontario PGA Junior Girls Champion after posting two rounds of 81-75 for a 156 total score in the Girls division. Runner up Sara Larcina from Toronto shot 89-76=165 to finish second.

Natalie Desjardins from Haileybury placed third (89-85) and Jackie DeMarco from LaSalle placed fourth (93-96).

In the Boys 13 and under division, Spencer Buck from Etobicoke shot a final round 77 to pull well into the lead ahead of first round co-leader Jack Gibson from Fort Erie. Buck?s scores of 86-77 for a 163 total earned him the Champion?s trophy, while Gibson had to settle for second place with scores of 86-88.

In third place behind Gibson was Douglas Hoppe from LaSalle (94-85) with Michael Murray from Thornhill in fourth place (96-87).

Buck also won both the Mr Lube Long Drive and the Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin Competitions for his division. Other division winners in these skills competitions were Pickard, Jason Mark (Ennismore), DiLonardo, Karl Boyes (Windsor), Jason Wellings (West Flamborough) and Desjardins.

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, now in its sixth season, is presented by Boston Pizza and hosts tournaments for boys and girls aged 10 to 23 in four age divisions. The non-profit Tour is endorsed by PGA Tour veterans Dave Barr and Ray Stewart and is the only major junior tour in Canada run exclusively by Golf Professionals.
