LeMay Rolls at MJT Ontario Series at Guelph Lakes Golf Club

Guelph Lakes, ON – (October 1, 2012) – Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) players were treated to an old-time classic over the September 29th and 30th weekend at Guelph Lakes Golf Club in Guelph, Ontario, where members had one last chance to secure their spot in the season-ending MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship at the Legacy Golf Resort this November in Phoenix, Arizona, and an exemption was also up for grabs into the Future Collegiate World Tour’s (FCWT) event at TPC Sawgrass at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Matt LeMay, 16, of Waterloo, ON, claimed the MJT Boys 14-16 gold medal and Low Overall Honours, winning the exemption into the FCWT at TPC Sawgrass with funding provided by the MJT and International Events Sponsor, Travel Underwriters. “It was a beautiful layouts and in great condition,” he said. “The greens were awesome, I made a lot of 6 footers to win. ” Runner-up in this division with two solid rounds of 76-67 was Craig Stefureak, 15, of Caledonia, ON, followed by Daniel Knapp, 16, of Burlington, ON, who carded 74-70 to take home the bronze medal.

The MJT Boys 17-19 gold medal went to David Fell of Guelph, ON, who played two solid rounds of 71-72 to edge out Matthew Chiasson, 18, of Cambridge, ON (73-74). Fell, 17, said “It feels great to win late in the year on the MJT. I haven’t played great lately, but nice to finish the season strong.” Finishing one shot back in third place was Colton Clemmer, 18, of Cambridge, ON, (73-75) who took home the bronze medal.

13-year-old Max Redman of Ary, ON, took home the Boys 13 and Under gold medal after firing rounds of 76-85 to edge out Mackenzie Raines, 13, of Kitchener, ON, (79-82) on the first playoff hole. “It feels graet! ” said Redman of his victory, adding, “I just started playing golf in May of 2011, so I have come this far.” Finishing third in the division was Brendan Lancaster, 13, of Thornton, ON, who carded rounds of 84-90.

Barrie’s Corrine Grans-Wood, 17, had two solid rounds of 76-81 to win the Girls Division title over Skylar Turkiewicz, 17, of Brantford, ON (82-82), in a close race. “I just stayed calm and relaxed ” stated Grans-Wood. “It feels great to win.” Finishing third in the Girls division was Monica Gabriele, 16, of Mississauga, who played well, shooting 89-84.

The Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition in each division was won by Max Redman of Ary, Jack Quirke of Waterloo, Brett Kudoba of Kitchener, and Aly Mereiros of Burlington, while the divisional Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competitions were won by Max Redman of Ary, Tyler Waugh of London, Brett Kudoba of Kitchener, and Aly Medeiros of Burlington. Golf Town Comeback Awards went to Scott Justason of Dundas, Craig Stefureak of Caledonia, Tyler Schepens of London, and Alisha Corringham of Pickering.
