JUNIORS BATTLE LONG COURSE AND HEAVY RAINS AT MJT’S SWAN-E-SET STOP

PITT MEADOWS, B.C. - (September 20, 2010) –
Inches of rain within hours drenched the Swan-e-set Bay Resort course in Pitt Meadows over the September 18th and 19th weekend, forcing the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) tournament to shorten from 36 to 27 holes. Juniors battled soggy conditions and, in the older divisions, a very long, tough 7,000 yard layout, and it was testament to the maintenance of the course that the greens drained as quickly as they did on day two so that nine holes could be completed.

Oscar Baek, 15, of Coquitlam and a junior member at Swan-e-set, fired 73-38 to win low overall and the Boys 14-16 title in style. “This is my home course and as always, it was in great condition, however it was very wet,” he said. “I feel great about winning here on my home course and I feel on top of the world.” Runner-up to Baek was Jun Kang, 14, of Port Moody, who shot 74-40, while third place in the division went to Callum Robinson, 16, of Langley (78-39).

Another Swan-e-set junior member, Tae-In Lee, 17, of Maple Ridge, ran away with the Boys 17-19 title with scores of 74-40, and cited his concentration and effort on every shot as key to his victory. “The course was wet and soggy but in great condition, and I feel great, winning on my home course,” said Lee, who stated he intends to study for his S.A.T. tests in the off-season. Tied for second place in the division was Belmont Golf Club’s Jesse Reichelt, 17, of Langley (86-35), and another Swan-e-set junior, Seung Jun Woo, 18, of Maple Ridge (82-39).

A close race in the Girls division saw Alix Kong, 14, of West Vancouver, fire 78-37 to win by one stroke. “The course itself was in great condition however very wet,” she said. “My good attitude was key (to winning). I feel that my game came together successfully and I am happy.” MJT Team Canada to Australia member, Valentina Trillo, 16, of Port Moody, came second after carding 78-38, while young Lily He, 11, of Pitt Meadows, placed third (79-38).

Swan-e-set junior members continued to dominate with Henry Lee, 12, of Coquitlam, winning the Boys 13 and under title after firing 77-39. “I feel good,” he said, adding his goal in the off-season is to ‘win a lot of tournaments.’ Runner-up was Roy Kang, 11, of North Vancouver, who shot 82-38 but also added prizes for the division’s Mr. Lube Long Drive, Golf Town Comeback Award and the top draw prize of a Callaway Diablo Driver to his haul. Third place was a tie between Jae Wook Lee, 11, of Langley (88-41), and Kevin Li, 13, of Burnaby (87-42).

The other divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Myles DeBrincat of Vancouver, Tanner Kopan of Christina Lake, and Brooklyn Kraakman of Deroche. The Sundog Skills competition divisional winners were Kevin Li of Burnaby, DeBrincat, Dylan Reichelt of Langley, and Winnie Hyun of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Golf Town Comeback Awards also went to Jerry Bang of Coquitlam, Jesse Reichelt, and Julie Lym of Vancouver.

The final MJT tournament in B.C. this season is the MJT One Day Fall Series at University Golf Club in Vancouver on October 16th. For more information or to register, please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-4653.
