St-Basile-le-Grand, QC – (August 12, 2009) – Players on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s only national junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA professionals, competed under variable weather conditions this week in the MJT Quebec Series at Club de Golf Rive-Sud in St-Basile-le-Grand, seeking division titles and an exemption into the MJT National Tour Championship scheduled at Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa in Phoenix, AZ, USA, this November.
Jean Francois Godbout, 19, of St-Nicephore, claimed top spot in the Boys 17-19 division and low overall score with solid rounds of 75-76 (151), securing his exemption to the National Tour Championship. Just two strokes behind in this division was runner-up Eric Fraser, 19, of Chambly, who fired 74-79 (153), while third place finisher Jonathan Poissant, 18, of St. Michel, kept pace and ended the two-day event with scores of 81-74 (155).
It was a close race in the Boys 14-16 division where after posting tying scores on day one, Lucas Greco, 14, of Montreal, (77-78=155) bested hometown boy Hugo Bernard, 14, by one stroke (77-79=156) for the win. Greco was defending champion in his division as he won last year’s event as well. Third place finisher, Jonathan Fournier, 15, of Lorraine, was four strokes back of Greco after carding 78-81 (159).
The Boys 13 and under division also saw close competition, with Alexandre St-Jean, 13, of Otterburn Park, leading the way with a solid 84-86 (170) for the victory, edging runner-up Kurtis Campbell, 13, of St-Lazare (83-88=171). Eric Marshall, 12, of Ottawa, ON, was close on their heels and came third in the division with rounds of 88-85 (173).
