HOLLAND LOW OVERALL AT MJT-CPGA ATLANTIC JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
SHUBENACADIE, NS – Rain and lightning hindered progress in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s CPGA Atlantic Junior Championship at the Links at Penn Hills in Shubenacadie, NS, this past Monday and Tuesday, where junior golfers battled it out for division titles and a spot to the China Junior Open for eligible players.
The terrible weather failed to stop Sam Holland, 17, of Kentville, NS, from firing 71-78 (149) and running away with the overall low score for the field as well as the MJT-CPGA Atlantic Junior Boys 17 and up Champion’s trophy. “I played well the first day and managed to hang on in the conditions the second day,” he said. “It feels great to win here, especially in the tough conditions.” Runner-up to Holland in his division was James Laing, 18, of Truro, NS, who shot 74-79 (153), while third place went to Holland’s twin brother, James, after he carded rounds of 74-80 (154). Sean Fraser, 17, of Sackville, NS, who qualified for the China Junior Open last year on the MJT and played there this February, was once again the eligible player for the 2009 exemption after being the highest finishing full member with scores of 80-77 (157).
