STERLING EFFORT FROM EMERY WINS LOW OVERALL AT DUNDEE

Dundee, ON
– The second stop on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) one-day Ontario Fall Series was held during a rainy Saturday, September 27th, on Dundee Golf Club in Dundee, which was playing long due to the wet conditions.

Sterling Emery, 17, of Orangeville, started out with a great 35 foot putt for birdie on the first hole to end up winning the Boys 17 and up division title and low overall score for the field with his score of 75. “The course was wet but in great shape,” he said. “It feels good (to win) after a lot of close finishes.” Braam Botha, 17, of Stoney Creek, finished in second spot just one stroke back of Emery with a 76, while Spencer Buck, 17, of Etobicoke, shot 77 to finish third.

MJT veteran, Truman Tai, 14, of Markham, edged Chris Hemmerich, 15, of Kitchener, to win the Boys 14-16 division. “Making a 30 foot birdie on number 11 kick-started my good back nine,” said Tai, who shot 77. “I was just trying not to make any mistakes on the final few holes. It feels good to have won in two different MJT age divisions this year.” Brett Kennedy, 16, of Kitchener, carded 79 to finish third in the division.

12-year-old Matt LeMay posted a score of 79 to capture another Boys 13 and under division title, saying, “It felt great to have good shots in some tough conditions in order to win today. It was really wet out there. My highlight was a greenside chip-in birdie.” Runner-up to LeMay was John Boncoddo, 12, of Brantford, who shot 84. Paulino Fernando, 13, of Mississauga, posted a score of 87 to finish third.

The Girls division was won by Madison Easterbrook, 12, of Burlington, who shot 83 to edge runner-up Alyssa Getty, 11, of Leamington, by one. “My approach shot on the 18th hole hit the pin and stopped two feet from the hole which lead to the winning birdie,” said Easterbrook. “I thought I was down by two so I was not nervous until someone told me I had won. I was very surprised - I am very proud of my win!” Kirsten Degutis, 15, of Waterloo, shot 114 to finish third.

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Paulino Fernando, Brett Kennedy, Chris Riediger, 20, of Kitchener, and Madison Easterbrook. The Sundog Skills Competition divisional winners were Sean Carlino, 14, of Hamilton, Josh Freund, 17, of Ayr, and Alyssa Getty.

The one-day MJT Ontario Fall Series continues on October 11th at Foxwood Golf Club in Baden and October 25th at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge. For more information or to register, please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-4653.
