INCREDIBLE 63 CATAPULTS KALLIS TO VICTORY
Two players make Texas their “1st Choice” at MJT’s Paradise Canyon Stop
LETHBRIDGE, AB – In weather conditions which most golfers just try to survive, Carson Kallis, 15, of Red Deer, Alberta, blitzed the Paradise Canyon Golf Resort course with an incredible 63 on day one to end up with the low overall score and Boys 14-16 division title in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s 1st Choice Savings Series tournament this past weekend.
The rain came down sideways for the MJT veteran on the front nine, which he played 3-under, getting better on the back nine where he shot 5-under for his 8-under-par career-best round, an amazing score considering the circumstances.
The weather improved on day two with threatening rain being held off by strong winds, and Kallis followed up with a 75 to finish at 138 total score and a spot on MJT Team Canada to the Texas Junior Masters in San Antonio this August. Steven Scheidt, 16, of Calgary, was runner-up in the Boys 14-16 division after closing with a brilliant 67 on day two (74-67=141). Rhys Tosczak, 16, of Calgary, and Taylor Irvin, 16, of Cochrane, also posted fine final rounds of 69 and 68 respectively to place third and fourth at 143 and 144 total scores in the fiercely competitive division.
