5-UNDER-PAR FROM LEE CAPS OFF MJT SEASON AT CANACCORD CAPITAL CLASSIC

Cloverdale, BC – The MJT Canaccord Capital Classic was held Sunday October 14th at Northview Golf Club in Cloverdale, the final tournament in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s 2007 season, where a full field of junior golfers enjoyed beautiful fall weather.

Pureum Lee, 15, of North Vancouver, fired a brilliant 5-under-par 67 to win the low overall score for the field as well as the Boys 14-16 division title – his first win on the MJT with his best score ever. “Coming down the stretch I was thinking of nothing but winning,” he said. “I had seven birdies due to good driving and clutch putting. It feels great to end the season on this note and gives me more confidence for the next season.” Lee began playing on the MJT in 2005 at age 13, shooting scores of 90 and 85, and ended 2006 with an 85.6 stroke average. Murray Poje, Executive Director of the MJT and CPGA Professional, commented on Lee’s stellar progress: “This year he has shaved 10 strokes off, improving to a 76 overall stroke average. This is what the MJT hopes to help players achieve.”

Runner-up to Lee in Boys 14-16 was former MJT Cleveland Golf Player of the Year, Andy Yang, 15, of Coquitlam, BC, who shot an excellent round of 69. Rounding out the top three in the division was Jun Ho Lee, 16, of Pitt Meadows, BC, who shot 71.

The top three players among the Girls have each been recipients of the MJT Cleveland Golf Player of the Year award. Division champion was Jennifer Yang, 13, of Coquitlam, who edged runner-up Sue Kim, 16, of Langley, by one stroke after posting a superb two-under-par score of 70. “My driver shots helped me win,” said Yang, citing her four birdies as a tournament highlight. “I feel very happy.” Third place went to Soo Bin Kim, 14, of Port Coquitlam, who shot 73.

Tight competition in the Boys 17 and up division saw a three-way tie for first place at a score of 72 between John Koo, 17, of Langley, Matt Lister, 21, of Richmond, and Aaron Hale, 22, of Surrey, with Hale scooping the victor’s trophy based on retrogression.

Another MJT Cleveland Golf Player of the Year, Kevin Lee, 12, of Surrey, won the Boys 13 and under division by four strokes after firing 76. Second place went to Callum Robinson, 13, of Langley, who shot 80. Both Richard Zhang, 12, of Richmond, and Nav Bains, 13, of Surrey, tied for third place after shooting 81.

A special prize was awarded to the best score for a player aged 10 and under in the field, which went to Logan Yanick, 10, of Courtenay, BC. Yanick shot 88 and placed 6th overall in the Boys 13 and under group.

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Kevin Lee, Pureum Lee, Sean Craigon, 17, of Maple Ridge, BC, and Sue Kim. The Sundog Skills competition divisional winners were Jae Hoon Kim, 10, of Surrey, Patrick Dooley, 16, of White Rock, BC, Ryan Lloyd, 18, of Maple Ridge, and Soo Bin Kim.

The MJT season starts up again in March 2008, with three tournaments scheduled to be held during BC’s Spring Break. Canaccord Capital are the main sponsors of this series and an early-bird registration will be available later this year. The full schedule of over 40 tournaments across Canada will be available in February 2008. For more information please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-GOLF.
